Why are guests allowed to change the reservation on the day of the reservation

If you use the moderate cancelation policy which requires 5 day notice, why are guests allowed to change the reservation within that time period. One of my guests wanted to check in one day later on the day of the original check in. How is this not the same as cancelling at the last second. I could have rejected it, but Airbnb should not even allow this option, of course i don't want to allow the to not pay me for the day they wasted.

If you do not want to let it happen, decline the request. They are modifying their reservation and therefore they are not changing the cancellation policy. Airbnb is not letting them change it, you are.

I've just had exactly the same problem.

I agreed to the change as I thought Airbnb would have automatically taken 50% as I am also on a moderate cancellation policy. I'd feel a bit mean declining a change myself, I'd much rather hide behind Airbnb but in future if this doesn't change then I guess I'll have to man up as my holidays are based on my bookings!

How did you resolve this for future bookings Jon?
