A potential guest is desperate to make a deposit to secure our apartment.
How do I get her to do that? The procedure is that Airbnb collects the money upfront.
This is just a once off, I can't give the guest our bank details.
I wonder how many bookings are lost because we have no ability to contact Airbnb.
I use to get all my bookings through Airbnb, now increasingly I'm getting more bookings through other sources.
I think Airbnb is distancing themselves from the source of their business by having no means of contacting them directly.
Their business will suffer long term, it may be growing but could grow faster.
The problem going forward is when rivals eventually get a better name in the market place because they have proper caring lines of communication.
Is this enought for you?
@Llew0, it's not clear what you mean by the guest desperate to make a deposit to secure your apartment. AirBnB does not take deposits. All payments are in full and upfront, unless the situation involves long-term occupancy. In this case, ABB takes and pays out the first month, and then pays the host each successive month of the rental.
Accepting a deposit outside of the AirBnB platfform could result in your listing being deleted.
It's hardly an emergency - if the guest wants to book the place they can do so immediately using their card on the AirBnB platform.
If you mean the just want to put down a small deposit, then you are in the wrong place and would be better off using a rental agency where this practice is more common for longer term lets.
If your AirBnB listing shows a security deposit requirement, then you don't need to worry and you *don't* want to get into any sort of cash-based transaction with a guest. AirBnB doesn't even collect the deposit from the guest unless it becomes required AFTER the booking. Instead, AirBnB gets pre-authorization from the guest's payment method for such a charge should it be necessary.
Within the AirBnB system, you should NEVER get involved in cash-based transactions. For one thing, that violates AirBnB's terms of service. For another, some requests for cash transactions turn out to be complex scams.
Airbnb is not set up to collect a deposit to hold a reservation. Emailing them is not going to change this. If you want to contact Airbnb go to the help center and click contact, or call the number found on any itinerary.
I'm trying to contact airbnb and don't see anywhere I can contact them. I am a host and my host report said I had 2 low ratings last month. I had one last year. That is it. I want this corrected.
