After 2.5 years of hosting I got a letter to stop Airbnb (short term renting) immediately. I went in to speak to the building inspector and risk a fine if I continue. Next week I will see a city counsillor. I am only asking to be allowed to continue with the present guests reserved and will not accept others. I will also put my house of 27 years for sale.
I knew which neighbor complained so went to speak to her. She doesn't like seeing strangers around which is understandable since it is a residential area. So I pleaded with her just to allow me to continue 2 months which is our summer and that I would sell the house. Many people do Airbnb in my town - the building inspector agrreed and sais: but it is me who got the complaint. My town is very tolerant to people working in their homes and also having a bachelo apartment which legally are not allowed.
The city does allow for 6 month contracts but I would not like to have to deal with tenants as I am a woman alone. I have changed my minimum nights to 180 for my 2 Airbnb listings but am pretty sure I will be selling the place - maybe even look for a new place in a comerical area. Will make sure a check the laws if I do so (for sure).
Well just wondering a situation has happened to anyone else.
Thank you,
Rhonla
