city is shutting me down

After 2.5 years of hosting I got a letter to stop Airbnb (short term renting) immediately. I went in to speak to the building inspector and risk a fine if I continue.  Next week I will see a city counsillor. I am only asking to be allowed to continue with the present guests reserved and will not accept others. I will also put my house of 27 years for sale.

I knew which neighbor complained so went to speak to her. She doesn't like seeing strangers around which is understandable since it is a residential area. So I pleaded with her just to allow me to continue 2 months which is our summer and that I would sell the house. Many people do Airbnb in my town - the building inspector agrreed and sais: but it is me who got the complaint. My town is very tolerant to people working in their homes and also having a bachelo apartment which legally are not allowed.

The city does allow for 6 month contracts but I would not like to have to deal with tenants as I am a woman alone. I have changed my minimum nights to 180 for my 2 Airbnb listings but am pretty sure I will be selling the place - maybe even look for a new place in a comerical area. Will make sure a check the laws if I do so (for sure).

Well just wondering a situation has happened to anyone else.

Thank you,

Rhonla

Very sorry for you. I wish there were another way.

Please exhaust all possibilities before selling.  Drag out the  process.

You are lucky, after 27 years you have the choice of selling and starting fresh. In the recession of 10 year ago, many people were stuck and lost their home.

As for finding a business friendly town, good luck. They do exist.

Thank you Paul, yes I am trying to drag it out. Since many people are doing Airbnb in my town and I have no real complaints accept cars on an alreayd busy corner (with 4 stop signs) the city will hopefully let me continue for the high season of summer. I need this income to do repairs on the hosue to sell it. It's really all perfect timing really. I had bought another place in the woods with 3 units and I didn't like travelling the 30 mins to look after guests and everything else in the other place. So it's divine timing really, I will mostly likely sell it and use the money for a new project hopefully with Airbnb becasue I do like hosting. Yes, starting new as you said. Thansk again for your reply, Rhona
