It stays permanently.  You do have a window of time to post a response though (I believe 30 days).  In that response you could explain the reason for the cancellation so potential guests might understand and feel more confident you won't be cancelling on them.

Once you get some bookings and reviews the cancellation will drop down in the review section and won't be an issue.
