i am disgusted with the host and airbnb

Below is the conversion between me the airbnb agent. Basically, i found an acupunture needle on my bed. I was disgusted with the situation and asking for a refund. Too bad I didnt take the photo. Apparently, Airbnb didn't even bother investigate the issue to verify what I said, which I wouldn't mind as I swear every single word I said is true. They just simply denied the refund as I couldn't provided so called "evidence"!!!!!

-----------------

Perfect if that’s how you treat your customers. You guys don’t deal with fact but just with evidence? Did you even ask Krystal what I have mentioned is true or not?! Isn’t that evidence?! I believe even she couldn’t deny it!! I reserve my right to take legal actions and will definitively post this incident and OUR CONVERSATION on every single public websites I could think of. This is just doing whoever will choose Airbnb I favor. Just let them see your company’s true ugly face!

Hi,

I had to revisit our refund and compensation guidelines. I even had to consult my Supervisor about what took place during your trip, base on the documents that you sent us it is not enough to issue any refund. My Supervisor also denied the partial refund that I have initially offered this decision is in line with the updated refund guidelines that we have in place.

Please understand that, should there be claims like this we need to have solid and valid documents to proceed with any compensation.

Best regards,

To be honest, I am not happy with the resolution. What if the needle was dirty and had virus from her patients? What if I am infected by it? Would you think half refund is good enough to resolve the issue? I am totally upset with the service she provided and disgusted by finding a acupuncture needle on the very bed I slept on!!!!

At least, to be fair for both sides, I need full refund plus a $300 credit to cover my potential cost for a full body examination.

I know this may not be enough for all the hassle and the inconvenience this has caused, but we hope that you will still choose Airbnb for your future travels.

If there's anything we can do for you, please do not hesitate to let us know. Thank you so much.

I see.

Since the host is not willing to provide you assistance about the matter, we will penalize him and educate him about being concerned about the guest complains. Also, we will refund you the half of the reservation cost for the inconvenience.

We apologize again for the inconvenience.

I didn't take the photo of the needle. But here is the pic I took of long hair which apparently doesn't belong to me(I have short hair as shown in the profile pic). Again, the host hasn't done any cleaning before I moved in.

As I mentioned, I told host's mom about the incident. All I got is her saying "I am sorry" - no further action taken by her or host(Krystal)at all(bed sheet is not even replaced).

I didn't see host(Krystal) at all during my entire stay.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting us about that concern. This is Paolo, one of the case managers of Airbnb and I'll be more that happy to assist you.

We apologize for the inconvenience and for the bad experience, but we would like to help you out. I just want to ask if you already informed Krystal about the problem? And if she took the initiative to at least resolve the issue.

This will make a great impact to our investigation and to make sure that we will be able to provide you the right compensation for the matter. Thank you.

Thanks for reaching out to us on this issue. I've forwarded your inquiry to a member of my team who can better assist you. They'll be getting in touch with you soon.

I didn’t take the photo. I told this to host’s mum. She is an acupuncturist. She got patients during the day, which is really noisy too.

Thanks for your message — Airbnb Support will reply as soon as a specialist becomes available.

I found an acupuncture needle on my bed. Apparently, the bed sheet wasn’t cleaned before I move in

@Richard745

Richard, I am sorry that you found an unacceptable item in your bed, but I am rather concerned about your compensation demands....do you feel they are reasonable?

You found an acupuncture needle in your bed, I agree totally unacceptable, did you get pricked by this needle.....you didn't say so...and I am bloody sure you would have if you did! If not why do you want $300 for a full body scan?? You are already after a full refund and now you want another $300 on top of that!!!

Mate.....this is what makes hosting and running a hosting platform so difficult, some people do not know when to stop 'pushing the choke'!!

What exactly would satisfy you here....half the crown jewels!

Each vexatious claim like this makes the Resolution Centre that much harder to deal with, so much less trusting and everyone looses. Every day CS have to deal with situations like this.....a guest puts a couple of cigarette burns in an outdoor setting and the host puts in a claim for $2,000 to replace an outdoor setting he bought at the local op shop for $250! Sure it may cost $2,000 to replace that outdoor setting but the host didn't pay the for it and he gets jacked off because Airbnb didn't honour his claim!

I am sorry but, I don't like people like you who will try to exploit a situation to their advantage. I put you in the same category as the guest who carries around a supply of bedbugs so he can claim a full refund and get an inocent hosts listing closed down!

I do the best I can to provide my guests with the best experience possible! But guests like you who will find a fault and then go to the end of the earth to exploit it make me wonder if what I do is worthwhile and whether I should actually be here!!!

Two things:

1. You said I am already getting full refund? Rob, you either need better glass or need to do a brain check as your reading comprehension really sucks. It was clearly said in Airbnb msg. They wouldn’t issue the refund as I couldn’t provide so called “evidence”.

2. If you think your life worth less than $300, that’s your own evaluation and no comments on it. What if the needle was from infected patient? What if I am infected? Would the host cover the cost? I don’t think the ignorant host like you would care to pay a penny!

@Richard745

If you care to check out my listing I am a Superhost! A lot of effort went into achieving that status Richard. Superhost is not awarded by Airbnb, it is awarded by my guests.

I tremble in fear that I may one day get a guest like you who will undo all the great work that my 160 other Airbnb guests have done.

There is nothing conciliatory about you, you simply want your 'pound of flesh!'

My comment was "you are already after a full refund"...... not that you had received it or been refused it!..... so don't tell me what I said, I know exactly what I said....I have had a lifetime of studying words Richard and the meaning behind them!

Anyway I have made my point, you should not have to put up with needle of any type in your bed, that is outrageous! But you have chosen to take a path where you will criticise anyone who does not support your desire take advantage of this oversight and screw what ever you can out of it.....and Richard, that is also outrageous!

@Richard745

I side with @Robin4 on this. While I am sorry your ABB experience was bad.... you didn't sleep in the bed, you were not pricked. A needle in the bed is a serious concern and I agree a simple appology is not enough. IMO, you should have gotten a full refund and/or should have been re-homed immediately. (It's what I would have requested if it had been me in your shoes.) But also, if you want to make a claim and get money back of course you need to provide proof!! No one is going to just take your word at face value and just hand over money. Without sufficient proof, it's basically a he said she said situation, so I can actually understand why ABB did not give you a full refund. (if you've ever tried to make an insurance claim, you'd know how important proof and documentation is!)

But there is absolutely no reason for a full body scan...... you are clearly trying to take advantage of the situation and the host to get a free medical check-up. Where I live, we would call what you are doing a SCAM.

@Richard745 Iam with @Robin4  & @Jessica-and-Henry0 you are so adamant YET no photo.....seriously, ABB is right you are scamming or it completely looks like it. So give it up- not on your team with this stuff.

So another possible ruse, bring an acupuncture needle, put it in the bed, claim a full refund and extra.

Where will it stop?

I was just about to say what @David126 mentioned above, but he is exceptionally quick today. LOL

EVERY policy has to be viewed on what is its good intentions, BUT how it could be abused, because it WILL be abused by the 'takers', those wanting something for nothing. That is the reality with humans, which is what host, guest and Airbnb are composed of.

We have covered here, in this forum, of the many items (i.e. dust, spider, a bug, stains, smells, etc.) that inexplicably mysterious show up with one guest, but not with the previous 50, and sure enough always at the core is a claim for a 'refund' (aka money).

When I first heard of Airbnb 4 years ago, I immediately asked myself - "Now, how is this going to work with certain types of people?"; specially in certain cultures without a moral rudder.

Not to suggest @Richard745 this has anything to do with your particular case, but keep in mind' the Airbnb coffer is filled from only two sources, guest & host fees, the more freely Airbnb disperses payouts the higher those fees will have to become.

You had two legitimate courses of action for a refund.

You didn't say when you discovered the needle. Was it before or after your night's sleep?

1. If it was before, you could have left and claimed a refund.  If you had done this, it would have been proof that you felt your health was at risk.

2. If is was after your sleep, you could have left, taken a picture for proof and gotten an easy refund.

You also had another choice. After finding the needle, you could have asked your host to change the sheets, ensuring you clean, needless bedding. You could have left a review stating "Acupunture needle found in my bed" and given a thumbs down.

But you chose to stay, expect a refund and create drama (my health was jeopordized) hoping to get even more.

So yes, Airbnb must have proof.

It is unfortunate that there is a pool of 'guests' like this one who go through life on the expectation that they will be rewarded for any situation they can exploit.

Athough @David126's point is a good one, I only briefly covered that with the 'bedbug' comment, but I did not accuse this 'guest' of a deliberate 'plant' because he did say in that comunique with CS the host was an acupuncturist and the hosts mother apologised....so I did not accuse him of this but, I did lump him in the same category of 'guest'!

You Tube is full of video clips of people throwing themselves in front of, or on, slow moving cars in the hope of gaining an insurance settlement....thank God for dash cams!

I am once again reminder by the author of this thread how much I need to remain ever vigilant and keep my level of trust in check when it comes to guests....just one like this could bankrupt me for nothing more than extending a friendly hand and proudly offering a service.

"I reserve my right to take legal actions and will definitively post this incident and OUR CONVERSATION on every single public websites I could think of. This is just doing whoever will choose Airbnb I favor. Just let them see your company’s true ugly face!" .......

True ugly face...... that's a bit like the pot calling the kettle 'black'!!

I wish I had not seen this thread....I will now look at my guests a bit differently.

Cheers.....Rob

@Richard745 let’s see, Richard, the long hair in the bed bothered you so much that you took a picture of it,  but you supposedly also found an acupuncture needle in the bed and you did not take a picture?!  This is not believable at all.

Airbnb has said that they are going to penalize the host based on your claims and now you are free to move in to harass other hosts.

You have done a lot of damage. Go away now, please.
