Hi All, I'm here in Philadelphia and we're hosting a national event, the Democratic National Convention. Security is of course on high alert and all is going well so far. But, I'm updating my house notes. A couple of guests have suggested I get a TV for keeping up with news. I have no plans to get one, but would like to make information about where to get news in the event of local emergencies. A unfortunate reality of our day. Has anyone else dealth with this--like by posting an emergency radio station, local news web site (like https://alpha.phila.gov/departments/oem/), or something similar. Just curious. Thanks for any ideas.
Radio. I live in an area which can become a disaster due to bushfires in the summer, I have a windup radio should power go. You can listen to the updates. Just in case! I love this radio, it is the best link to the world. A battery radio would work too, I just like the wind up as I cannot be trusted to have working batteries all the time and you don't want to find the batteries have gone flat. Don't get a TV if you don't want to, in an actual emergency there may not be power anyway.
The radio is a good idea.
But, as you have accurately described your place stating there is no TV, you have no obligation.
Or you could get the cheapest second-hand small TV set tuning signals with an antenna, which will be useful for emergencies and low-cost.
Thanks Sandra and Ilan, these are excellent options! However, I think a hand-crank better fits my own (lack of) replacement-battery supply habit.
With regard,
Deborah
p.s. Lailani, I don't have any information about your error message situation. But, I was able to view your 2 listings (Home stay... & Yoga Home...) from the link on your profile just fine.
Hello @Deborah75, @Ilan1 and @Sandra126,
Great to meet you Deborah and Ilan, Sandra I hope you are having a great day. 🙂
I just wanted to update you on this thread to say that I have now moved Lailani's post into a new seperate post, as it was a little off-topic.
Great question here Deborah, I imagine this is something that many hosts think about.
Are there anymore thoughts on this?
Lizzie

@Deborah75 If they're in town for the convention, they'll likely want to be able to watch a news station. You can get an inexpensive Smart HD TV for well under $200, so it's not very much to put a TV in the room for guests. You don't need cable, just WiFi and they can watch the convention live on YouTube, or watch movies on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. listen to music on Pandora or other apps, etc. It's a nice amennity that doesn't really cost much.
