"fake" guests

Dear hosts,

Be aware that there are guests who are paid to stay in your house and then write horrible reviews about your place....to destroy your business. We were told that they are paid by competitors who has jealous/envious of your success; especially if you are a super host!

Their reviews are obvious lies and I stated that in my response. It seems Airbnb hosts are making local Inns/pension houses very nervous by our successes.

It has not affected my hosting but I lost my super host status, despite having reviewed the guests as dishonest as well as reporting them to Airbnb for security check. I now scan the IDs of my guests upon arrival for my our security.

Oh my goodness, that's terrible!   What a lot of bother and expense for the competitor to take, so vindictive.

How does it work for you to verify the ID of the guests when they arrive in this case - how would you tell who is a "plant"?  Would it be that someone is local?
