two request booking at the same time

i had a request from 18-12 till the 2-1-2018 all together 15 nights,i approved it and let the guy 24 houers to answer

4 hours after i recived an instant request for 3 nights from the 17-20/12

as i waited for the first guy to approve'3 houers later his request become "no possible" as the dates are booked

what happend to the 24 hours, it was better for me to give for 15 nights and not 3

what is going on? i am new to airbnb

The instant book supercedes the pre-approval, @ענת-ומשה0.  When you pre-approve a request, you have the option to block the dates for the 24 hour time period but it is not automatic, so the dates are open on your calendar and available for instant booking.

If you click on the 'pre-approve' button there is a radio button that appears asking - 'Block these dates from being booked instantly by other guests' - so you should also click this to give the guest 24 hours.

If you dont click on it, then it is 'first come first served'.

I think 24 hrs. Is too long if there are other interested guests specially when they cancel last minute. Waste of time & money.
