Guest vaped and I lost income. AirBnB doesn't care.

I had a three night guest last summer.  Friendly enough guy.  He cleaned up after himself before he left.  He also sprayed a bunch of cologne in the apartment -- so much that it took a day to go away and I didn't realize that he had been vaping in the apartment and had used the cologne to cover it up.

My guest denied vaping but the smell of vaped nicotine persisted.

AirBnB wanted some 'evidence' of my guest vaping but of course an odor cannot be confirmed by AirBnB.  AirBnB then asked what the cleaner thought -- as I self clean I said the cleaner thought it smelled like someone had been vaping in the apartment.  AirBnB then asked if I had photos of the person vaping -- as if anyone would rent from me if I had photos of them in the private apartment.

It took lots  of cleaning and four lost weeks of income for me to get the smell out.  AirBnB refused to pay/reimburse me for anything.

How do I prevent this from happening again?
