3 small touches guests always remember (even if they never say it)

3 small touches guests always remember (even if they never say it)

Hi everyone! 👋

Over the years, I’ve noticed that guests remember certain details much more than others — even if they never mention them directly.
These small touches often shape the whole feeling of their stay.

Here are three things that consistently make a difference:

1️⃣Warm, soft lighting
Harsh or cold lighting can make even a beautiful space feel less welcoming.
A warm lamp or softer bulbs instantly change the atmosphere and help guests relax as soon as they walk in.

2️⃣A smooth, simple arrival moment
Even if the check-in instructions are clear, guests really appreciate a first contact that feels friendly and human.
A short “Welcome — you’re all set, enjoy your stay!” message right after arrival makes them feel supported.

3️⃣A tiny welcome gift
It doesn’t have to be big — a small snack, a local treat, a bottle of water, or even a handwritten note.
Guests often never bring it up, but it sets a positive tone and they remember it for a long time.

I’m curious:
What’s the small detail you’ve added that guests seem to love?

Looking forward to hearing your ideas! 🙌

Hi @Elisa , thank you so much! 😊

I’ve been hosting for a little over 10 years now, mostly in Tuscany.

It all started with a small family property, and over time I’ve learned a lot about how the local process works — especially for foreign owners, who often face a different level of complexity here.

What I shared comes from seeing the “behind the scenes” many times: timing, documents, local rules, and the little things that can slow things down.

I’m really curious to hear what the other hosts think as well — everyone’s experience is slightly different depending on their Comune, so it’s always great to compare.

If I can help clarify anything from the perspective of Tuscany regulations or hosting dynamics here, I’m happy to share more!

I liked the tips.💐

Ciao @Lamberto-and-Enrica0 😊

Thank you for sharing this with me!

I'm happy to read all the other hosts’ comments about their experiences.
Was it difficult to start hosting considering the Tuscany regulations?

Ciao @Elisa 😊
Great question — and yes, Tuscany can be a bit unique!

When I first started, the most challenging part wasn’t hosting itself, but understanding how every step connected: the regional registration, the local municipality rules, the police portal, and all the little documents required along the way. None of it is “difficult” in theory, but it’s rarely explained clearly, and each Comune tends to have its own rhythm.

Over time I realised that the key is simply knowing the sequence:
first the regional registration, then the local compliance, then the police access, and only after that you’re fully ready to host. Once you understand the order, everything becomes much easier.

What I’ve always found interesting is how different the experience can be across regions or even between neighbouring towns — that’s why threads like this are so helpful. It’s great to see how other hosts approach things in their areas too.

If anyone is starting out in Tuscany and feels overwhelmed by the process, they’re definitely not alone — but with a bit of patience it becomes very manageable. And I’m always happy to share what I’ve learned from the local side if it helps others.

Grazie ancora, Elisa! 🙌

Ciao @Lamberto-and-Enrica0 😊

I’m Italian, so I definitely understand, it may not be easy sometimes. 😔

But how did you figure all of this out? Did someone help you?

Ciao @Elisa 😊
Honestly, it wasn’t something I figured out overnight, and no single person helped me “solve” it all at once.

It was more a gradual process over time.
Hosting for many years meant dealing with changes, new rules, different portals and updates that weren’t always clearly explained. Each time something didn’t work as expected, I tried to understand where the process was stopping and why.

A big part of it also came from listening to other hosts — not just here, but across different hosting communities and forums — and comparing experiences. When you see the same issue mentioned by people in different places, you start to realise it’s not random, but often a missing piece in the sequence.

So it’s really been a mix of experience, trial and error, and shared knowledge.
That’s why I enjoy these conversations so much — they turn individual frustrations into collective clarity.

Grazie davvero, Elisa! 😊

Ciao @Lamberto-and-Enrica0  😊

Thank you for letting me know.

It’s true what they say: “trust the process.” I like your positive attitude when it comes to solving situations.

I hope you’ll have a smooth end of the year while hosting!

Yes, you're spot on.

Hospitality pros say that the first 10 minutes after arrival sets the tone for their entire stay. And it's true.

Absolutely @Elaine701 , I couldn’t agree more.

Those first minutes really shape the whole experience — they set the energy, the trust, and even how small issues are perceived later on.

I’ve seen it so many times over the years: a warm welcome and clear communication at the start can make the entire stay feel smoother for both guests and hosts. 😊

Always snacks like five star hotels! Ours are free!
Leaving lights in when they are THE art is brilliant. I paid extra for lighting fixtures and it counts. 😊

Thank you all — these are such great additions!
I completely agree that the little details often shape the entire stay.

Snacks like five-star hotels — that’s genius. And leaving the lights on for late arrivals creates such a warm welcome. Lighting truly sets the tone more than people think.

What I’m seeing in all your messages is the same idea:
A great stay is built on small, human details — not big investments.

Love this conversation! Happy hosting, everyone. 🌿

We loved hearing of these ideas, its always the little details that leave the biggest impact. We like to offer other toiletries: makeup remover wipes, toothbrushes and, lotion for our guests.

These have been a huge hit and the guests have expressed to us that they really appreciate it!

Thank you all — these are such great additions!

Make-up remover wipes and small toiletries… absolutely! Guests never expect them, but they always remember them. Those thoughtful “hotel-level” touches make a big difference.
