Hi,
I need a little advice on a recent guest with two small dogs.
Our house rules clearly state that dogs must be housebroken.
Yesterday after our guests with 2 dogs left, I entered to find 9 rugs, every rug in the cottage, in a huge pile.
This even included the large area rug under the couch, the bedroom rug wasnt removed only due to the bed on it.
I reached out to the guest asking what happened and all he said was "wanted to make sure no doggy accidents."
Yes, it was considerate to do that, however - it would have been good to communicate.
As I was cleaning I found many areas where the dogs had pooped and it wasnt properly cleaned.
Yes, allowing dogs there will sometimes be accidents, but clearly these dogs were not housebroken.
they want to return in December.
Am I out of line by explaining we are not a good fit for them?
Or do I just bite the bullet and remove all the rugs for the next visit?
I did explain to them that this has never happened to us before and it was very alarming.
did not get a response, perhaps they will not book again.
any thoughts appreciated.
We've been hosting for over 2 years and had over 125 guests and this is a new one to me.
Thanks!
@Joan2709 They left me a review, but I haven’t written theirs.
Unfortunately there’s always a chance they left me a bad review.
i will not host them again, thank you for your advice. 😊
Hi @Cheri336,
I'm sorry you've run into some challenges with recent guests!
I'll tag a few more hosts in to see if they have more suggestions on how to best approach or communicate in this situation: @Ranveer1 @Greystone0 @Karen4131 @Mia1090 what would you do in this case?
Thank you everyone 🙂
Emilie

Hello @Cheri336
I think you did a great job sharing your experience with your guests — they’ll definitely keep that in mind moving forward. I’d also recommend adding this information clearly in your listing description so that future guests are aware as well.
