AirBnb misleading advertisement

AirBnb misleading advertisement

I am trying to book a place in Boston.  The website starts off with a box saying the amount quoted is the total price for the unit.  When you go to book it the actual booking fee starts off with that amount and then it adds sales tax increasing the amount. This is total misleading advertisement and it hurts all hosts and annoys all guests.

Actually, this is not misdleading. Airbnb says the price includes all fees. Taxes are not fees. This is the same on any other platform you look at. They all do the same thing.

Taxes are imposed by states and local jurisdictions and the Host (nor Airbnb) have control of what taxes are charged. The taxes are dependent upon the number of nights booked and cannot be added/calculated until you indicate your dates and number of guests. This is not unusual as hotels also add taxes to reservations.

Seems to me when they say it is the price you will pay and it costs more I put that into misleading advertisements.  Change the wording on the add to reflect what is the total plus additional charges or get rid of the misleading add.

You can send that suggestion to Airbnb if you like at:

I believe you can do the same with all the other booking platforms, since they all do the same as Airbnb. Here is another popular OTA that says the same as Airbnb:

Vrbo

Hello @Neil857,

Adding to Joan's comment, here is an article related to how pricing works for homes.

I am also including the feedback form here where you can share your thoughts directly with Airbnb.
