I run a popular Airbnb Experience giving flight training in a WWII open cockpit biplane. I've been a very successful host for many years and normally have no problem with Airbnb policies. Yesterday, someone booked my Experience. Then a few seconds later, I received a message from Airbnb saying that the booking was being cancelled. No information. No reason for the cancellation. Just left me wondering what the heck happened. I sent an email to Airbnb requesting clarification and was told that they had indeed cancelled the reservation, but that the reasons for the cancellation were none of my business. I told them that taking $179 out of my pocket without consulting me was certainly my business. Then they said they couldn't discuss it because it would violate their safety and security policies. I responded that I didn't need to know precisely what my guest had done to get cancelled, I just wanted to know what types of activities could get a person cancelled unilaterally. And why is there so much secrecy surrounding cancellation? They finally sent me about 50 pages of policies and procedures, none of which addresses allowing them to cancel my guest unilaterally. They go to great lengths to be courteous in their email responses, but they never answer your actual question. It's almost comical how they try to hide the information I'm requesting, almost like it's a national security issue. Has anyone ever gotten a satisfactory explanation for this behavior?
