Airbnb Refusing Full Refund After Bed Bug Infestation – What Should I Do?

Hello,

I recently had a terrible experience with an Airbnb stay due to a bed bug infestation. I immediately contacted Airbnb support and provided clear proof, including photos of bed bugs on the bed and bite marks.

 

Despite Airbnb’s AirCover policy, which covers serious health and safety issues like this, they are refusing to issue a full refund. They claim the host reported that I had spent nights there, even though I had no choice but to vacate the property and book a hotel at my own expense.

 

This situation has been incredibly stressful. I had to spend a lot of time checking my clothes and belongings, laundering everything to avoid contamination, and even discarding some personal items. My weekend plans were completely ruined, and I’m still dealing with the aftermath.

 

Airbnb has acknowledged the issue but is only considering compensating me for laundry costs while ignoring the full refund that should be issued under their policy and giving me a partial refund instead. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? How can I escalate this further?

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So sorry this happened. Could you provide a bit more information so we can better assist?

 

How long was the reservation for?

Did you only spend one night and vacated the next day due to bed bugs?

Did you immediately notify the Host of the issue by messaging them as well as Airbnb?

Did you ask Airbnb to provide another accomodation, or did you just book a hotel yourself?

Did you provide a receipt for the hotel accomodation to Airbnb?
