Airbnb founder co founder joins Musk at new Dept of Government Efficiency

I was shocked to read that Airbnb co founder Joe Gebbia is joining Elon Musk at this new government  department which has already sacked 10,000 in a government  witchunt - with no notice or reason.

It certainly doesn't align with the Airbnb brand of being open and welcoming to all.

@Helen3 thanks for sharing this. As I sit in far away Ghana I can only say that the goings on on the other side of various ponds and seas affect us all. Global village etc. Most of us in the thread are clearly not naive-- we know that as hosts and guests we will be affected by the presence, clout and influence of the billionaires.  The personal is political as they say. Nothing in this world is neutral. I will be adding my voice to the cries of disappointment.

As a 10 year (several location) host and frequent guest user, I am incredibly disgusted!!! Gebbia has lit the final match on the demise of airbnb, a company that already was suffering and losing customers. Now as airbnb burns down Hosts, like us will be leaving as well!

I will be adding different listings platforms and ending my association with Airbnb.

But I am sure Gebbia and the other wannabe Oligarchs feel  their involvement in dismantling our democracy while lining their pockets and increasing their power is worth it to them.

Long term seems like a incredibly choice as regular folks are harmed, lose their hard earned money and will no longer chose or financially be able to be consumers of the goods and services these billionaires companies are trying to sell us.

I will be offering special offers via my VRBO listing and begin listing on Expedia, Zillow and HOmetogo

Thanks to hosts and renters for taking a stand.

I’ve sent feedback already using the app. I will honour my current bookings but I will be moving my listings to other platforms. I consider DOGE to be a criminal gang and I do not want to be associated with it in any shape or form.

As an Airbnb host and someone who is horrified by this news as well, and who is now faced with boycott ing her own business, we the Hosts are the victims- not Joe Gebbia. Most of us are working class people who have put our hard earned money into making a beautiful safe space for  ourguests and have no affiliation with the oligarchs who are attempting to rule our world. Joe Gebbia owns 7%, so maybe if everyone sends feedback to Airbnb and demands he disassociate himself from the company maybe we can make a difference? To me, this doesn't make sense, because as we know the company's platform is diversity, inclusivity and welcoming to ALL. Please send your feedback to https://www.airbnb.com/help/feedback

Unfortunately he was already cozying up with Musk before this, and also switched his allegiance to Trump prior to the election. This just brought it all to light. Enough for me. I will be looking to other platforms to book my stays.

I feel much better knowing I won’t be renting from ***** anymore. AirBnB is looking better and better now.

To be honest, I agreed with your stance that personal political views should be kept out of these community forums. I think you should also follow your own advice.

Rather surprising and hypocritical  taking into account the political comments you've made on this community @Zheng49

I have made all of 2 political comments (both in the same topic), and I have since ceased to post any more political comments. However I believe it should apply to everyone, not just me who should refrain from sharing their political views.

The only reason I posted that political comment in the first place, is because it threatens the very existence of Airbnb. Montreal is actually very close to Toronto, and the same thing could happen here in my city.

It would be nice if Airbnb's continued existence or well-being can be fully detached from politics though.

We have to as a Community be HEARD.

I Agree 100% that we should not be politicizing our business. We are business owners with Airbnb and we should have a voice.  We Hosts are the victims- not Joe Gebbia. Most of us are working class people who have put our hard earned money into making a beautiful safe space for our guests and have no affiliation with the oligarchs who are by assocation to DOGE are prompting this boycott. Joe Gebbia owns 7%, so maybe if everyone sends feedback to Airbnb and demands he disassociate himself from the company maybe we can make a difference? We have to be HEARD.

Deleted the app yesterday and will now check the other platforms mentioned in this thread - or just go back to hotels.
