Are we unnecessarily annoyed?

Guest IBs for 2 guests for 2 days, 10 days ahead... dawdles with returning guest info to me...

then he returns the guest form listing 6 persons, with a note that says maybe the extra folks will be stopping by, maybe not, they're just letting me know just in case. (this is directly above the section of the form that he signed already that says in big bold letters: No additional guests beyond what you've booked and paid for) So I get to do the "I'm sorry, no, we don't do drop-in guests, might I suggest here, here or here for meeting up with your friends"

Next: 2 days before arrival he tells me that the two guests are bringing 2 vehicles, one of which is pulling an off-road camping trailer. Ok, not great, probably should have asked me first, but we can manage. So I type out the whole explanation of where the trailer should be parked bc it won't work in the normal Barn parking.

Then: day of arrival the second guest calls me 6 hours before checkin to talk about the whole trailer situation bc actually he'd really rather park it up at the Barn bc he wants to pop up the tent and sleep in the trailer in my driveway because he's in health care and IT ISN'T SAFE for him to sleep in the Barn with the other guest but he'll still be going in to shower and eat and whatnot.

UMMM, excuse me, but WTHeck... You're so concerned about social distancing that you're going to sleep in the driveway and this didn't merit even a 'hey, how's this sound for our trip to your house Dear Host?!?'

Clearly, I'm annoyed... but is this ok in the new normal lala land of STR in the time of Covid?

@Anonymous yeah, I'm going to disagree. I offered parking, I didn't offer for guests to pop up a tent out at the road for all the neighborhood to notice. And furthermore if this guy is such a danger to the other guest then why in the world does he think it's reasonable to ask us to clean up the place after he's been in/out 100 times and used the kitchen and bath? If you need to be fully social distanced for your's and other's safety then you should be at home, not touristing halfway in/out in my guest house.

If they wanted to sleep on the floor instead of in the bed or brush their teeth in the kitchen instead of the bathroom, then ok, no big deal.

But much like the 'we moved all your furniture' crowd, renting a place for 2 days doesn't give you carte blanche to rearrange the world.

@Kelly149  Is the space that the tent would be pitched on part of what your listing advertises for guest use, or is that part of the property outside of its jurisdiction?

My image of your guest, of course, is the youngest child in the movie "Parasite" with his teepee in the backyard. We all know how that turned out...

@Anonymous I'm actually shocked that in 4 years no one has asked if they can pitch a tent for their kids in the backyard - it's absolutely perfect for it and I'd be all for it. And I've even had a guest group that parked an RV in the driveway and stayed in it, but those people asked first, bc that just isn't normal. And yes to be clear this funky setup doesn't even fit in the Barn's real parking, so this special guest is down on the house part of the property.

And I'm not aware of the cinema reference but a petulant child comeuppance is a fine image for me. We got a phone call a bit ago asking for clarity on how to operate the tv remote so I think @Sarah977 is on the right track.

@Kelly149  That's too bad, Parasite is a really fun movie!

But these guys brought a different reference up for me....

"Jack, did you get that note I left in your tackle box?!

"You know how I love fish!!"

Reread the problem and see it is camping out the front on what we call the verge. which is city property where no camping is allowed!

Not to mention, he's so clueless that he thinks sleeping inside the house with the other guy would put his buddy in danger, yet sharing the kitchen and bathroom doesn't? Makes you wonder sometimes what exactly is between people's ears that passes for brain matter.

@Kelly149

Well, @Sarah977 they've left a window open all day long (with the AC still on) so maybe that draft of fresh air is somehow protecting them

New normal? Level of annoyance? In addition to these questions, @Kelly149 , given your level of experience as a host, I am wondering how many hosts are also asking, "Is is worth it?" 😛

Keep us posted.  You know, sometimes reading these posts is like watching a soap opera in which I am on the edge of my seat wondering if the "evil twin" will show up.

Wow, can guest actually camp in your driveway? Here camping on private property is only permitted for 3 days with the owner's permission.

@Kelly149  This is a really annoying situation. If the guest is on "medical care" why should he come at all? Or will they talk on the phone? This can be done from any other place.😆
