Dear Airbnb Community,
I recently booked a reservation, and it was one of the worst stays I've ever experienced: roaches, rodents, exposed/collapsing ceilings, and the listing was dirty. I reported the issues to the host and to Airbnb Safety, and the following day, the host and another man attempted to force entry into the listing without my consent or knowledge. I reported this incident to Airbnb Safety as well, as it seemed that the host was retaliating against me for the reports I made. I'm a young female solo traveler and my safety is paramount, so I conducted a background check on the host. I found out through my research that the host was part of a large sex trafficking ring that transported minors in the United States to the Caribbean with the intent of forcing them into prostitution. The host pled guilty to the charges and served several years in prison. His current "name" on the Airbnb platform is concealed to potential guests (he uses his initials).
I'm reporting this to the larger community in hopes that someone can direct me on how to escalate this to the highest possible authority from Airbnb. The host is intentionally concealing his identity to cover up his past crimes, and he is abusing his privileges as an Airbnb host to intimidate and assault vulnerable guests.
Airbnb must protect all of its users and implement background checks. The host in question should be banned from using this platform in any and all capacities.
