I tried to get an Airbnb today and they wouldn’t let me get one. They said they were scared. I was gonna have a party. I’m 55 years old never rented one never been in trouble and have my mother that’s dying ofcancer stage four in her lungs and it’s already her lymph nodes. She only has a few months more to live, and I was trying to take her to the lake for the weekend With my kids that are grown and my youngest is 16 and my grandkids. and they refused and said that we was gonna have a party that is Silly. I have tattoos on me and if that’s the case that’s profiling and not fair at all
Was it Airbnb who wouldn't allow you to book a a potential party risk?
Airbnb uses an automated AI to search for potential party risks by evaluating:
Last minute booking (especially over a weekend or holiday)
Guest trying to book lives locally
High guest count
Unfortunately, with AI run amok these days, reservations are automatically cancelled by Airbnb without a human reviewing. One can possibly get around the party risk block by having another guest who is not living locally book the stay, or seek out the same property on another platform.
This is really sad. It’s because I have tattoos that y’all think I must party I run a fortune 500 company the biggest one in the world in our industry and I can run that never been in trouble no felonies or nothing but yet I’m not good enough to rent a Airbnb
@Michael9962 DUDE, we don't see your picture or ANYTHING about you when we receive notice of your booking.
If you REALLY think that you are being discriminated against because of tattoos, have your wife or adult child create an AirBNB profile, post a modestly covered picture of themselves and book the property.
@Michael9962. Try messaging the host directly (so not a request to book) and explain your situation. If they are happy they can try sending you an offer.
I dont think tattoos are the issue. If you think its an issue then just update your profile pic: I agree it doesnt change who you are.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
There’s no other reason, I’ve never rented a Airbnb. I’m 55. I don’t party. I’m taking kids and grandkids
and mother but I’m covered in tatts so to someone small minded I’m might look like trouble not to mention, I work with every Law enforcement in the whole DFW hand-in-hand every day
Did the Host decline your Request to Book or did Airbnb cancel the stay? I truly doubt it had anything to do with your tatoos.
Keep in mind Hosts don't even see your photo until the booking is confirmed; we only see an Initial or first name. Airbnb does this explicitly to prevent discrimination based on the guest photo or last name. This is why I believe Airbnb flagged the profile as a party risk and it wasn't the Host who prevented you from booking.
Were you trying to book an Airbnb in the same town where you live?

Hello @Michael9962
I'm sorry to hear about your mum and I think it's wonderful that you want to take your kids to spend some precious time with her.
I can also confirm that we don't get to see guest's photos until they book so the only thing we have to go by to get a feel of a person wanting to stay, is their profile page. I had a look at yours and it's completely blank! Renting on Airbnb is built on trust (two way thing) and I'm afraid to say that some guests leave a place in a very bad condition (especially new profiles) so it's important to give as much information as possible to a host to let them know the reason for your stay - in the same way you have done here. So I would suggest filling out your profile page Michael and I'm sure you will find a host happy for you to stay with them.
The host in question may have had a previous bad experience with a new guest so doesn't want to take that risk again - understandable. Worth giving it another try with a filled out profile page this time and a nice message to the host😊
All the best
Joëlle
Good afternoon @Michael9962
Is the Airbnb listing within 80 kilometres of where you are based?
Is it the same weekend as any particular Public Holidays/ Memorial service day ?
If so Airbnb do use algorithms that are understood to be based on Behaviour Scientists Group research papers which are in fact Fundamentally Flawed and the accuracy of them should be questioned in the judicial system.
Any business using Artificial intelligence are required by law to have human intervention and not just a Robotic response.
People need to be mindful of the fact Artificial Intelligence is not a new technology, is been with society for well over 100 years, if not longer.
There was discussions about the implications of Computers and Artificial Intelligence in the 1960's and 1970's yet our Politicians did barely anything to ensure appropriate legislation.
This is the same circa as Privacy legislation/ Intrusions of Privacy legislation was raised and enacted.
Airbnb are understood to have an Interface that may be based on IBM / Microsoft systems, just like many other platform Interfaces.
The problem is they collide without appropriate and accessible human intervention including to personally review decision making.
If that requires an Engineer overseeing and working in the back end to unblock dates, resolving and removing a retaliatory review, ensuring payments that have not been made are processed in accordance with wider policy, or trying to make a reservation that's like in your situation a pre determined decision not based on fact ABB Executive Officers and the Board are responsible and accountable under various laws - including whoever signed off these contracts with outsourced agents.
You mention that you wanted to take your Adult children and grandchildren so based on the balance of probabilities, ABB Robots have automatically blocked you - based on numbers - hence there outsourced Business Processing providers, understood to be subcontractors of Telus , have once again failed to fulfil there legislative obligations.
Note a group of investors into Telus are taking legal action with SEC for failings.
We hope you get to see your mum as we all should be able to without any issues caused by Artificial intelligence and an ongoing failure to comply with Rule of Law.

@Emilieand other Moderators would you please ensure Nana Banerjee has yet another unfortunate situation of the AI designed with her Trust & Safety Team of adverse consequences so she fulfills her legal obligations as she is responsible for this mess.
Thanks in advance.
