Does Airbnb lower service fee if a guest shortens their stay?
Hi there. I have a guest asking to cancel and rebook their stay for a shorter amount of time (as opposed to doing a trip change request.) He said that Airbnb still charges the original service fee even if he’s staying for less time. Can anyone confirm if this is true?
The booking is still a few months out but it’s for a very in-demand weekend so I’m just a little concerned that this is some kind of scam. This guest has zero past bookings/ reviews.
The service fee gets recalculated depending on the alteration request (less if the stay was shorter, more if more days were added on).
You can have the guest or you could call Airbnb support to double check but that’s what happened when I’ve had people shorten or add on dates. I’ve had people request on their own, I’ve altered on my own and I’ve also had Airbnb support help to alter the request. All the fees were adjusted per the length stay.

@Claire2293 Firstly decide if you want to accept his request to shorten the booking if you do the Airbnb is likely to be reduced if the overall fee is lowered (sometimes if a guest reduces their stay they won't get longer term discounts) .
