Fake phone numbers

Why do guest use fake numbers to make a reservation? Should Airbnb be more careful about it ??

@Paola1520

Did you tried to contact your guest with the phone number which registered in the guest profile ?

Do communication with your guest via Airbnb message if you can’t reach them by phone.

During the guest verified their information are including email address, phone number and government ID. Usually, Airbnb do verified user phone number and email address for verification.
I’m doubt the guest may change the phone number after the booking  or either is the “Third party”  booking.

Please do acknowledge to the Airbnb Ambassadors thought Airbnb Support Help Center, cause you can’t reach your guest and inform the guest phone number which is registered in the Airbnb was doesn’t respond.

Hi @Paola1520

Interesting. Actually I refuse to give out my phone number, as I have had hassle. I ask Guests to use the Airbnb messaging and except for long term guests with whom I may share, using the App has always worked. You may just have met folk like me who don't want to disclose a phone number but if forced to will make something up. Is that a possibility?

Do you find that the App works for communication as @Dale711 suggests?

@Mary996 ,

I am totally agree with you.

I mentioned in my pre- booking message and check in guide-

“ We’re not recommended phone call inquire for check in procedures......”

In fact, I do not respond phone call !
I personally prefer messages with guest via Airbnb.

That why, some of my guest do hate me 🤣

Haha!! No one could possibly hate you @Dale711 . Its just an over reach  for Guests to expect to have our personal phone numbers and entirely unnecessary. Am going to be even more assertive about this (nicely!!). Thanks xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

@Paola1520  I've found that just because a guest's phone number says not in service if you try to call, it doesn't necessarily mean it's fake or nefarious. Had a couple of bookings from lovely guests who had just forgotten to update their phone numbers when they moved.

Airbnb should have some pop-up that appears when guests try to book asking them if their phone number, etc, is correct, but they apparently don't.

I've taken to asking guests to check that the number on their profile is current and correct.

@Dale711 It depends on why the guest would need to phone me. Most of my guests arrive by bus and as the bus station is only a 5 minute drive from my house, I offer to pick guests up there. I ask them to send me a text or call if they flew in and are ready to get on the bus at the airport, a trip that takes about 45 minutes, so I have a heads-up on their arrival time. Then they phone or text me again when they arrive at the bus station, I jump in my car and go get them.

I've never had any hassle at all by using phoning or text for this. I'll also sometimes phone or text a guest if I'm at the store in town, and they are home at my house, to see if they want me to pick up any groceries.
