Free infant policy

Free infant policy

Anyone else question the wisdom of the Airbnb infants are free policy ? When they wet the bed, mess the place up and leave a massive pile of diapers they actually create more work than an adult.

@Mike-and-Lesley0  Free infants is a problem, and it amazes me how many guests with infants have zero understanding about sanitation.  Raised in a literal barn?

AirBnB also does not recognize that "free" infants can also break legal restrictions. My municipality allows me to rent to X number of human beings.  An infant is a human being, so they should be included in the guest count.  My property is a whole house, not a shared accommodation.  I do not charge a fee per guest, and I do not allow "extra" guests.

"Property is licensed for 4 (four) persons, including children and infants."

I state this in my house rules and everywhere else that I can reasonably put this stipulation.

I see your problem too.  We charge for extra people beyond the first two. AirBnB is losing income by not allowing us to charge them.

Although it's for under 2 years old some parents push the age out to 3 years old.

@Mike-and-Lesley0 . I dont host many infants as I dont believe my listings are truly suitable (trip hazards, wildlife, room size for cot etc). So I tend to point out all the short comings, ask lots of questions (no IB) and in the end most give up. I do have a cot and high chair I can provide if I think it will work but I'd rather another local listing take their booking (who dont take pets for example but have a better set up with facilities, toys, 2nd living room, etc). Pity Airbnb cant realise this.

I had a lovely couple stay recently who have 3 kids, but they left them all at home with the grandparents but brought their favourite child- their fur baby. 🤣. One of the easiest hosting gigs ever and left the place immaculate.
