Get rid of airbnb full-screen popup every time I view app

I'll start by saying I am not an Airbnb host, I have never been a host, I do not own any property.

I live in Airbnbs full-time (60+) and am on the app multiple times a day looking for my next rental or communicating with a host. Every time I open the app, I get a full-screen popup within the app saying "Airbnb It...you could earn $1,300" (screenshot below), and I have to click the X button to close before I can do anything in the app.

I think I accidentally clicked something sometime and now Airbnb thinks I want to be a host, which I do not.

Airbnb chat support told me there was no way to remove it and just to click the X to close every time. I know it probably sounds small but this popup is very annoying and I was wondering if anyone knows how I could get rid of it. Thanks!

Hello @Sam6876  and @Colin703, the technical team has confirmed that this was a bug in the app, but it has been fixed by the engineering team.

I hope this issue has been resolved on your end. Please keep us posted.

Hello @Sam6876, I hope you're doing well. I've spoken with our technical team to find the best way to help you with deactivating the pop-up. They suggest starting with some basic troubleshooting steps:

  1. Log out from your account on all affected devices and browsers.
  2. Close all browser windows and tabs.
  3. Open just one new window on each device/browser.
  4. Clear your cache, cookies, and browser history.
  5. If you're using our app, please delete and reinstall it.
  6. Log back in using your account email.

Once you've completed these steps, ensure that your app is set to Guest mode, not the Host section.

Could you let me know if the pop-up persists after trying these solutions?

Keep us posted.

Thank you Paula, I have done all of that but I just did it all again. The pop-up persists, every time I open the app.

Interestingly, it happens in airplane mode which means it's not based on an API call upon loading the app. There is some flag in my account which is downloaded upon login and then cached locally, which triggers this pop-up each time.

It would be amazing if somehow the app team could inform as to exactly which condition in the software triggers this pop-up on open. I have spent 3 days texting 60 messages to 5 different Airbnb support staff to no avail.

Thank you for the update, @Sam6876. In this case, I will need your help by sharing a screen recording showing the pop-up when open the app through a shareable Google Drive link. This will enable the technical team to investigate further.

Please feel free to paste the link in response to this comment.

I am also experiencing this popup and it's extremely unwelcome. It's a great way to encourage people to stop using the app.

Hello @David1732, I'm sorry about this. Could you please follow the basic troubleshooting steps shared earlier in this thread? If the pop-up persists, could you share a screen recording showing the pop-up when you open the app? Please provide this through a shareable Google Drive link and indicate the device used.

Thank you.
