Gift card not refunded

My girlfriend sent me a $250 gift card to book us a place to stay for a few days before we can move into our new place and my account was locked because my ID needed to be verified (even though I've already done this). I did that and then got told because I had used a debit card that had the $8 I owed for my balance there was now a temporary restriction on my account. There is nothing wrong with my payment method, literally used my card at Wendy's. I was on the phone with them all day yesterday and got NOWHERE. I was told to wait 24 to 48 hours before booking again. It's the next day and there's still a hold on my account. All I got was we're hopeful it'll work tomorrow? That's $250 I don't have to waste. I've gotten nowhere with them. I just need it added back to the gift card so I can use it with my girlfriend's airbnb account. Beyond ridiculous. I called them SEVEN times yesterday.
