Groups under 21

I just had a 19 year old with no reviews try to book my place with three other friends. I don’t know the age of the other guests. I generally feel uncomfortable renting to anyone under the age of 21. I also am cautious about renting to groups or anyone with no prior reviews…

I know Airbnbs discrimination policy is intended to protect families. As a host I need to protect myself from young groups who may be drinking….

Any thoughts/experiences with this ?

Hi  @Emilia42 !

Yes, I think you are right.  Honestly when I travel with friends this is what we look for, and its great with a parents with kids situation.... I hate to limit (I'd rather expand) who my cabin is good for...but there are limits for everything

Thank you for the helpful feedback!

I read Airbnbs articles around these subjects and reached out by phone for detailed info regarding ages of guests but you are better off not relying on Airbnb to advise you on your own liability issues. The person I spoke to about collecting ids did tell me that some hosts have separate platforms where guests upload their ids. These folks are generally property managers who run multiple listings and need to make sure the house they are leasing for a month won’t be trashed..

Hi, Chrystine!  I have an Air B and B on the first floor of my home. I just received a reservation inquiry from someone who is older than 18 but younger than 21. Upon researching the help center, I found that Air b and b states the following:

"It's against our Terms of Service for anyone under the age of 18 to create an account to travel or host. "

However, he told me that other hosts told him he had to be at least 21. So, I called air b and b to verify, and they confirmed it is 18. BUT, that made me ponder and worry about liability, wondering how far must one go, what is the Duty of Care as a mere homeowner and not a bar/restaurant owner. I believe that from now on I will stipulate 21 minimum in my listing with the option for me to be able to check IDs upon request. Meanwhile, I will do a little more research!

I don’t leave alcohol for guests for a few reasons.
