Hello I am both a host and a guest. I just stayed somewhere and there was an serious issue which was not handled promptly. The host has written me several uncomfortable and personal messages of the “we’re all in this together” type, basically asking me not to write a negative review. As a guest, if I do not write a review and the host does write a review, will the host’s review be published? Thank you.
Hello @Liza72
Yes, if only one side leave a review, be it guest or host, then that sole review will be published after the 14 day period that Airbnb gives us to leave a review.
Are we allowed to ask what serious issue you encountered as a guest? Would you not like other future guests staying to know about this problem if the host hasn't rectified the issue?
A difficult and uncomfortable situation to be in for sure Liza,
Joëlle
Hi. The toilet broke. The co-host, a young guy filling in while host out of town, shut off water and gave me a bucket to “watch down my waste.” His words. It took more than 36 hours from time I reported serious leak soaking up many towels after I slipped in the night to get plumber. I was not informed that plumber had come. I stayed out of flat using public restrooms waiting for update. None was given until I asked. Bathroom left a mess with two dirty buckets mop left on floor and silt in tub making tub unusable. Was then told by co-host to “use common sense” and put buckets and mops away. No mention of dirty tub. Communication horrible. Found out that day that my sister had passed from cancer. Moved to a hotel. Was told I was overreacting by host out of town. Air Bnb support excellent at helping. I had purchased trip insurance. I was refunded $178.25 via air Bnb trip insurance and another sum via air Bnb support. I don’t want to write a review bcuz the experience was so degrading and I prefer to grieve the loss of my sister. Thank you for listening.
Hello @Liza72
My heart missed a beat when I read your reply and I am truly sorry for your terrible loss and for asking in a way, never imagining that you were going through such a horrible and sad time personally.
It certainly puts things into perspective and can understand that leaving a review is the furthest thing in your mind right now.
You have my deepest sympathy,
Joëlle
Hi @Liza72,
I’m truly sorry for your experience — both with the stay and the personal loss you’re going through. No one should have to deal with such poor communication and conditions, especially at such a difficult time. Thank you for having the strength to share your story with the community.
To answer your original question: yes, if only one side writes a review (host or guest), that review will be published automatically after the 14-day review window closes. If you choose not to leave a review, the host's review (if they write one) will be posted once that period ends.
But please remember — you are not obligated to review if it feels emotionally draining right now. Taking care of yourself comes first. The community will still be here when you’re ready.
Wishing you peace and healing during this time.
