Guest canceled payment after moving in

Has anyone ever had a guest cancel their payment after moving in.  I have a guest staying 30 days.   He has been with me for 2 weeks and I just got notification from airbnb that his payment didn't go through.  I'm not sure what to do.  This is a first for me in 10 years of hosting.

@Andee1 How much payment did you get so far? Usually the payment is sent to you on the second day of the reservation. Or at least that's how it works for short term bookings.

@Andee1

That is odd they are just notifying you? Normally Airbnb sends pymt 24hrs after check-in? What did Airbnb CS say when you contacted them? Did the guest do a credit card chargeback?

When You'll Receive Paymouts for Monthly Stays

https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/285

...For reservations that are 28 nights or more, we collect payments in monthly installments.

  • We’ll charge your guest for the first month upfront and release that first payment to you 24 hours after their scheduled check-in.
  • Upcoming payouts are released to you on a monthly basis, based on the check-in date, for the duration of the reservation.
  • Once payouts are released by Airbnb, how long it takes you to get your money depends on your payout method’s processing time. Find the processing times for payout methods.

Yes it appears he contested the charges even tho he is still there. Airbnb contacted him but he has 48 hours to correct before I can evict him.

@Andee1

So sorry, what a mess...It will be interesting how they handle this, as they obviously didn't get paid either. I would keep copies of the reservation and the guest communication with him (PDF of the reservation and screen shots of the communications), just in case they remove his profile. I wonder if it is a scam he has used before, or making up reasons for the chargeback?

Hope it gets resolved for you soon.

Thank you!  In 10+ years of hosting,  I have never run into this.  So far Airbnb seems to be on top of it.  I spoke to the guest and he says it is an expired card issue.  We shall see...
