Hi hosts, I’d love some advice on managing pets in Airbnb listings.
We recently had a nightmare stay where guests brought multiple dogs and left them alone in the apartment for a long period. Unfortunately the dogs urinated throughout the unit, including on the floors, beds and linen. The damage and extra cleaning ended up costing over $750 AUD to rectify (we currently have a case open with Airbnb).
It’s made me seriously consider removing pets from our listing altogether, but I know pets can also be a great way to increase bookings.
For those of you who allow pets:
• How do you prevent guests from bringing more animals than they declare?
• Do you charge a higher pet fee or deposit?
• Do you have specific house rules that actually help prevent damage?
• Have you found any systems that work well to protect the property?
I’d really appreciate hearing what’s worked (or hasn’t worked) for other hosts before I decide whether to remove pets completely.
Thanks in advance!
