Guest kind of gone
hello everybody,
did anybody have this experience? Our guest booked our apartment for more than 2 weeks, checked in by herself, stayed for one night, got visited by a friend, the two left and never showed up again. In a few days their rental is over and they do not respond to email nor phone calls.
What to do?
Does airbnb have an idea?
Thanks for your input.
Stay healthy and well.
best to you - Eb

@Nena-Und-Eb0 This is a weird behavior but surprisingly common. There's nothing that you're required to do here, but I recommend sending just one message via Airbnb messenger acknowledging that the guest hasn't been in the home since (date of departure). If the booked period is still in progress, the guest still has the contractual right to return to the apartment. But if it's over, your course of action depends on whether the guest has completed checkout (returned keys, removed baggage etc).
If the guest has removed her stuff and returned your keys, and left nothing damaged - congratulations on 2 weeks of easy income! But if you enter the flat and find the baggage still there as though she was planning to come back, of course you go directly to the police.
Airbnb, in general, has no idea.

Hi Andrew,
Thank you very much for your input.
That certainly helped to deal with the strange situation.
Luckily she called back after 10 days and said everything was fine.
She left by now and we never really figured out the whole story.
Best to you

We have had it happen a few times for shorter bookings.
Bad reviews, naturally, because they hadn’t bothered to read the description, and were horrified to find that, for the first time ever, they were truly “alone.”
Didn’t have the common courtesy to notify us when they had no intention of returning either.
They’re not welcome back ever.
