Howdy there,
I need some advice on reassuring me that I am doing things right with this reservation. I had a guest loose her cat while at the rental property--we scoured the whole property, posted pics on social media and had a couple of good neighbors helped. I refund her the cleaning fee since there was someone else there when she arrived (another guest entered the rental by mistake). What else should be done to help this guest? Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi @Anasazi-Cliffs-Lodging0 😊,
Thank you so much for asking this question here!
I'm so sorry about your guest's cat, but it's so kind of you to help them.
Do you have any updates?

Hi @Anasazi-Cliffs-Lodging0 Thanks @Elisa
Sorry to hear about your guest’s cat 😞 Have you check local vets and shelters? They might have received report of a found cat. Offer guest to post in local lost pets groups on FB and local community pages.
I’m really sorry you’re dealing with such a tough situation. Losing a pet is incredibly stressful for a guest, and I can tell you’ve already gone above and beyond by searching the property, posting on social media, and getting neighbors involved. That was the right thing to do.
However, the most important next step is to continue searching for the cat. Cats tend to hide when they are scared, so check under porches, in bushes, garages, or anywhere they might seek shelter. Leaving out food and their favorite scent (like a blanket or litter box) might help draw them back. If you haven’t already, consider offering a small reward in local lost pet groups or flyers around the area.
Regarding the mistaken guest entry, that’s definitely a situation to address. Clearer check-in instructions, detailed photos of the entrance, and better signage can help prevent this in the future.
Since the guest is likely very distressed, regular updates on the search efforts can go a long way in showing that you truly care. If the cat isn’t found soon, offering further goodwill (such as a partial refund or a future stay discount) might help ease their frustration.
Hang in there, and I really hope the cat is found soon. Let us know how it turns out!
You have gone over and above with helping this guest find their pet .
you couldn't have done more for the guest .
the guest should register details with whoever takes in strays in your locations and should contact local vets .
how was another guest able to access the property when you already had these guests in residence?
