Guest potentially disconnected surveillance outdoors
Hello community,
My 1st ever air BNB guest just checked in last night, may 25th 2020. The next day, I went online to check my outdoor surveillance because I had not had a notification in about 12 hours And the system told made the camera was disconnected.
I then went online to my Internet service in it shows that my modem is disconnected as well. I am wondering if the guest unplugged the modem and thus disconnected the out door front door camera.
What should I do? I text them and ask them to send me a picture of the light on the modem so that I can Share this information with the Internet technician and the Guest have not responded in its been about 3 hours.
What are the rules about air BNB host shaking on their property. Please help thank you.

@Renee421 I doubt you are being paranoid. The guest may have accidentally turned it off by unplugging the modem to possibly use their own devices, or they may be unethical and turned off the camera in case they are sneaking in extra people.
Depending on how many nights they are booked for and how far you live from the unit, you could give them until tonight to respond and if you don't hear from them, message them that you will be coming over tomorrow to check on the modem and the cameras, which are necessary for guest safety, something like that. And then, see what they say and go over.

@Renee421 Good luck. Make sure everything is on the airbnb message system, and also make sure you send them a few messages, in case they don't end up responding, before you enter the property, so the guests can't claim you barged in unannounced.

Alrighty I've messaged them letting them know I'm coming by tomorrow at 7 pm to check on the survellaince and internet modem as they are for safety reasons. They responded "you're coming into the apartment tomorrow?" Smh I have a bad feeling about them. I will let you know how it goes. Thank you mark!

@Renee421 I'd also tell them that if they prefer to be there at the unit when you come that is fine, or if they have plans and won't be there, that is fine too, whatever their preference is, you want things to be convenient for them, etc. etc.... Fingers crossed.
You could also offer to troubleshoot the modem and camera w/them remotely, but again, I'd keep stressing that this is for their convenience...modem and cameras are for security and safety purposes that helps ensure a safe trip for guests.

@Renee421 Is there someone who can go with you? Friend, relative? This sounds really suspicious. You say you have a bad feeling- your gut feelings usually prove to be right. I don't like the sound of their response.

Sorry for the late update. Shortly before boyfriend and I were supposed to go over at 7pm, I checked the outdoor surveillance via the app on my phone and it was working again. Shortly after that I received a message from my guest stating that the outlet wasnt working and they plugged the router into another outlet and they also sent a picture.
We decided not to go over at that point and I will be checking the router when they checkout on june 3rd. I've never had an issue with any of the outlets so I didn't even think of that as a possibility

@Renee421 My vote is that its too much of a coincidence that your router/cameras go out just as these guests are checking in and they miraculously figure out how to turn everything back on just before you're going to show up. I would guess they have checked in more than your allowable number of guests.
