I let out my bnb to a local couple who absolutely destroyed the place by letting the property out and using it for a dog breeding ground.
They originally booked for 3 nights and continued to request a night extension the following 2 mornings. This was fine and we even allowed them to check out late as their next bnb was not available until then.
After they checked out the nightmare begun even before entering the cottage. All the widows were left wide open with every light on in the house. As you entered the house the over whelming smell was sickening. Dog fecies, dog urine and even dog seamen was on every surface. We don't alow dogs upstairs but yet the beds were covered in fecies and urine. All the furniture was chewed in both bedrooms carpets are stained and embedded with feces. The dinning room floor had caked on feces and seamen on the wooden floors the fire place was chewed, skirting boards chewed. Dog feces under the living room carpet, chairs chewed, LED lights chewed and to top it all off was a stinking pair of gray joggers that were covered in feces left in the bedroom.
After the shock of what these people had done to our little cottage we started the mass cleaning and started the airbnb clame. On receipt of the total amount I was then threatened by the booking persons partner who continued to abuse me on airbnb messages for disrespecting his partner and accusing him of soiling his self. I have now contacted airbnb and the local police force as im concerned about my property.
I was also told by my neighbours that they did not stay the whole 5 nights and only stayed the 1st night and leaving the dogs alone for 4nights.
Does anyone know Where do I stand Legally on this and how do I protect my home for possible further vandalism?
Thanks

So update after the obliteration that occurred at our cottage. The damage was so obvious Airbnb asseted the claim and payed the full extent of the damage and offered up to $500 for a professional cleaning company to come in.
After a shaky 2 visits after before the cleaners (we had 4 stars due to smell) we are now at a point where the cottage is now usable again.
@Kriss63 Unless there is a threat of violence or further property damage the police will not be interested. By handing over the keys to a guest the damage is a civil matter.
I hope your extensions were via Airbnb as, if not, then Aircover will claim you cannot know when the damage was done so may not pay.
A civil small claims court case may be possible but you will need a named address which Airbnb ay be unwilling to give you.
Perhaps worth installing CCTV or as a minimum a video doorbell.
Thanks @Mike-And-Jane0. airbnb has given me a link for the local police to get in touch with airbnb for the transcripts of the conversation between the guest and myself and where the threat was made and they offered to pay multiple times for the damage before I sent the clame off to airbnb which they were not happy with the amount I was claiming so resorted to language also.

Sounds like you have stumbled on some really strange people.
Curious, why would a place with two (2) bedrooms have a guest maximum of - 3?
We only have 1 bouble bed and 1 single bed. There for can o ly sleep 3 people
@Fred13 some places in Europe are very small! Doesn't apply to our ridiculously large place but clearly the clergy had to live in a 12 bedroom house!
After years of host complaints, Airbnb changed their policies to allow claims for dog damage.
Get receipts for cleaners and replacements and bill the guests in the resolution center - then ask Airbnb to step in if they don't pay. But act quickly and get as many estimates as you can.
This is why so many hosts do not allow pets, especially dogs.
I had long term tenants once sneak in a dog and the level of destruction was breathtaking. 😞
