I referred a friend, encouraged them through the process and told them they'd receive a referees bonus as per Airbnbs terms. But then Airbnb declined to pay it out. They wont even tell her why, they just sent the terms. She was completely deflated. I tried to enquire further, but they dodged the issue again, saying as its in relation to her listing they couldn't tell me (even though Im the one that referred and they had made a representation to in regards to the bulk of the bonus).
I dont believe it is good enough that they go back on their promise!

Hi @Angela3358 ,
I am sorry to hear that your referral didn't go as expected.
I just wanted to share these resources wherein it elaborates on Qualifying Reservations of referrals and Referral payment. I hope it helps!

What you’re doing with your answers is not helpful at all. You’re basically doing what Airbnb reps do when we ask them to pay us the referral bonus. Be vague.
Air BnB had technical issues at the time I referred a friend & I had to ring air BnB for them to generate a new referral code .
I sent it to my friend via email . I made sure the referral code worked prior to setting up the air BnB .
Sending the email wasn’t the only thing I did to help my friend ..
I brought furniture & many items for his home $500 , plus cleaned , scrubbed, mowed lawns , washed walls , put beds together, made beds & so so so much more .
Only because air bnb were supposed to pay me $1393 as a superhost
I’m sorry about your experience. I’ve had issues with them not honoring the payout (I had one referral that was supposed to be higher and they denied me the amount even though I had screenshots of the amount they offered).
There are a few threads about this in regards to the terms and conditions: 1) the referral must be a new host to the platform (does not include someone who is a host opening a new listing), 2) the referral link when clicked one has 90 days to be active and fulfill the requirements, 3) must have 3 completed stays with a total amount over ($100/stay each I think - as someone didn’t qualify because they had listed a single room and there was a 20% off the first three listings or first month whichever comes first), 4) the terms can change at any time (I’ve seen it fluctuate from high 600’s to just over $1000 for me as a superhost in the US - a superhost gets 20% over a standard host referral fee if you qualify), 5) your referral SHOULD NOT accept the free superhost ambassador support for their new listing (even if they used your referral link) for if they did, then that ambassador gets your referral fee (this happened to someone on the boards, they did all the leg work and the other person just read the listing and said looks great).
Like @Helen3 mentioned on another thread, you should not be purchasing all the person’s items intending to be reimbursed by the referral fee. You should have a contract stating that you will help on these conditions: 1) owner is responsible for purchasing all items recommended for the space, 2) you will be compensated x for your time/efforts (or you will be compensated x dollars over x hours spent on helping setting up the listing - some listings are easy and you may only need to help out 2 hours or less with support with pics, write up, answering questions or more; while others are more time intensive), 3) if you get a referral fee you could consider reimbursing them a certain amount off your fee or you could keep it as a bonus as Helen3 mentioned. I’m sorry you didn’t much work and have still not gotten the bonus. Did your friend get the requisite bookings in the 90 days from when they began setting up the listing?
Also note you cannot have friends book the space to write reviews as that is not allowed under the terms and conditions. That is all I can remember from the boards and wha I read a while back. The T&C may have changed so it’s always good to refer back to their support page where it states everything and screenshot/time/date of it.
Angela, the same exact thing has happened to me. It’s a complete scam. I’m a super host so my payout is large and Airbnb refuses to honor my referral let alone give me any sort of reason why I didn’t qualify.
I've referred a lot of hosts over time, many have been rather successful.
I applied for the referral bonus at first, but it never happened, so I just haven't bothered since.
Some years back, the bonus was only €60, so it wasn't worth it anyway. Now they've raised it a lot, but it's still not worth fighting about. Besides, today, everybody who has a legal licenced listing in this area is already listed on Airbnb, so there aren't any new referrals anyway.
