Holiday house insurance

I have been asked to sign a contract on a holiday rental in France  which specifies I’m responsible for the insurance on the house if we cause the damage. Ie flood the house, start a fire. I have never seen this in 30 years of renting houses? Surely the landlord has this cover if they have a commercial license to rent to holiday makers. Can anyone help with advice?!! Many thanks, Sue

Hello @Sue2604 ,

Personally, if it’s a short-term holiday rental, I wouldn’t feel comfortable signing a clause like that. In my view, the responsibility for insuring the house against major damage should fall on the landlord.

In other words, I’d probably look for another place.
