Host doesn't respond after canceling for refund

Talked the host leg off before paying.  Our dates changed 3 1/2 weeks before show up date. Requested refund and now haven't heard a word and Air bnb support is automated . No help

Its not clear from your post did you want to cancel your booking or change the dates.

 

if you want to cancel you don't need to speak to Airbnb or the host just go into your booking and cancel it . Any refund will then be processed under the cancellation policy you booked under.

 

if you want to amend the date you can go into the booking and then ask to change the dates - the host then has up to 24 hours to respond.

if you want to cancel you don't need to speak to Airbnb or the host just go into your booking and cancel it . Any refund will then be processed under the cancellation policy you booked under.

 

if you want to amend the date you can go into the booking and then ask to change the dates - the host then has up to 24 hours to respond.

Not sure who this is , but here's the story. 

Chatted with a host of a property. Asked so.e questions about how to go about and such. Put half down paid through bank account. Found out 6 days later that the dates were wrong and I needed to change them . House was already rented . So I requested to cancel. I asked a time frame of refund and no response. I think beings Im new there is no recourse. I did rent another airbnb in same town so I will have to suffer on the 800 dollar loss because I didn't know any better.

No disrespect but as soon as we are done I will be letting the people know about my situation.  Thanks for letting me vent . It helps but just a hard hit to my budget for the wedding . Gonna have to take the loss and use it as a lesson to watch for air bnb host on refunds. Not everyone is kind when they get money for nothing I guess. I was brought up alot differently. Respecting people.

This is a little unclear; did you make the payment to Airbnb? or did you pay the host directly by bank transfer?

 

If you paid the host directly, then Airbnb can't help you. It's solely between you and the host.

I'm sorry you made a mistake and booked the wrong dates for your booking which meant you had to cancel. @Ricky310 

 

When you make a booking you can see the hosts cancellation policy.

 

The host held the space for you in good faith.

 

I'm sorry the host didn't respond when you asked about cancelling but as I mentioned you can go into the booking and cancel at any point you don't need to speak to the host to do this .

 

Any cancellation will then be processed under the cancellation policy you booked under.

 

Some hosts including myself would offer a refund if we are able to rebook any of the dates that you cancel but are under no obligation to do so.
