I've tried to contact my host both in the airbnb messaging system and whatsapp . I've sent him 2 messages on both platforms and I can confirm that the host has seen my message on whatsapp.
He still hasn't replied.... I'm pretty sure he's ignoring me deliberately.
My flight is this Wednesday and I still have to receive a confirmation if the host is expecting me, if he'll host me , etc.
I'll be arriving at around 8pm so going into a strange city, during night time , look for an unknown apartment where the host doesn't have the decency to reply to my messages, is not very reassuring.
I've contacted airbnb this afternoon and got a quick reply from someone who told me they would forward my problem to a support team that had access to more info. I still haven't heard from them. It has been around 8 hours and while it's not a long time , since my flight is in around 35hours I'm getting concerned I'll have to book another place, spending even more money.
I'll probably have to pay a lot more since I won't be able to find a good deal one day before arrival. I'm even considering using booking.com and just go to a cheap hotel and be done with all this hassle.
When I posted my problem in the help center there was a phone number that I could call ( for urgent situations) but I can't find it anymore.
I'll wait until tomorrow and see if I get a reply from airbnb, but would still like to know which number I should call to reach airbnb's support.
Also, has anyone been in this situation before? This is my first time using airbnb and honestly , it's not a good experience so far.
How did airbnb solve your problem? Will I get a refund? Will they help me find a new place?
Yes, but you are hardly the one being left in an unfamiliar city with nowhere to stay.
I am having same experience. My host accepted and replied on my initial booking then i msge him several times. No reply up to now when i am schedule to check in may 28 for four nights. I contacted air b and b and they said i have to wait at least 5 days before the booking date , that is the time i can cancel my booking. In the meantime. I was advised to wait for host’s reply. The admi contacted him and its obvious he hasnt reply. This is frustrating. First time to use air b and b and what a bad experience. They should refund me asap since i have to book an expensive rate in another vancouver hotel since the date is already soon.
You should be allowed to post the name/property of you hosts so other people won't have to deal with these hosts.
My host is also not responding and I would appreciate some input from Airbnb on what recourse guests have, especially when the rental is in a foreign country. Given that communication in these sort of arrangements is critical to smooth planning of a trip, I find the fact that the host is failing to response after more than a week a bit disconcerting. What do you suggest Airbnb?
@Sue466 You apparently didn't bother reading any of the responses to the other posts in this thread. This a community forum for guests and hosts to exchange information and ask questions. You need to contact airbnb. And contact info is pinned near the top of this Help forum.
Sarah, I have, in fact, read through the thread and it was not immediately apparent to me that this was a forum limited to guests and hosts.
Thanks for your response but perhaps next time you can leave out making assumptions such as your first sentence.
@Sue466 I was referring to the fact that the original post in this thread and subsequent ones by responders told all these guest who said their hosts are not responding that they need to contact airbnb to find out what is going on. I didn't mean to be snarky, sorry, I hope you can work it out.
It's not limited here-anyone can create an airbnb profile and participate- it's just that no one here can assist you in contacting the host or finding out why they are not responding.
I had a experience with host not responding few months ago, I was frustrated as u r now, but I try every possible way to contact the host, waited a about a week...4 weeks before my date of travel, I use Twitter to contact customer service, they respond less than 10min, contacted me, even tried to contact the host themselve, day after they refunded my deposit, even offer pay the extra if I book an other apartment, got another beautiful apartment..And amazing host...I Couldn't how amazing airbnb was....So i really suggest u use Twitter...Because the phone number really for emergency only...Like when u arrived they not there ..Or apartment look like hell...
I hope will all work out for u Sue
I'm having the very same problem. I booked a place in Venice with a superhost back in April for the 5th of June, and the host has not replied to a single message since then. I've sent 3 messages through airbnb and one email, and am starting to get nervous we're going to show up and not have a place to stay.
We already had one host cancel on us with less than 2 weeks before our reservation, and couldn't find a single airbnb at even $100 more a night than we were paying, so ending up having to get a hotel instead.
Not sure what to do. Thinking of calling airbnb tomorrow to try and get some help.
Hello @Jeff384,
I'm so sorry to hear this.
I was wondering how everything went? Were you able to speak with your host in the end?
This is all so very concerning, as I am in the same situation with my very first experience with AirBNB. Host communication is extremely poor, and in fact the only time he responded to an inquiry was when I submitted a cancellation request. I am sorry now that I did not follow through.
Flying in from North America to Europe, and have not been able to contact the owner about the procedure to access the building, early access possibilities, etc.
Hotels may be more expensive, but the peace of mind is more than worth it. This will be my first, and last, use of the AirBnB service. It's just too risky.
There need to be more regulations to protect consumers
I am having the same problem. My reservation was accepted but now the host does not respond to my question regarding how the keys will be transferred to me. I am very concerned and wish that I had not paid because if I cancel I forfeit 50% refudndable due to strict refund policy. I can tell you that I will never use AIRBNB again.
Hello @Rosemary134,
Welcome to the Community Center.
I was wondering if you've contacted Airbnb about this? If not, I recommend that you take a look at our 'Contact Airbnb Guide'.
I hope this helps!
