How to create a Top Answer in the Community Center

Hello everyone,

You may have noticed that there is an option to mark responses as a Top Answer.

We want to explain the purpose of “Top Answer”, why it is useful, and how to craft a fabulous response to help your fellow hosts.

What are Top Answers and why are they useful?

A Top Answer is the most helpful response on a thread. They can be marked by the original poster or by one of the Community Managers. When a response is marked as a Top Answer, the response gets highlighted and pinned to the top so it’s more visible to other hosts.

Tips for writing a great Top Answer

Your responses can make a big difference by offering insights, resources, and supportive guidance to other hosts. Here are some essential tips to keep in mind as you craft your answers, ensuring they’re as impactful and approachable as possible:

  1. Empathetic: Always approach questions with empathy and remember that not all hosts have the same experience. Take time to read the post carefully and identify what the host is asking.  Feel free to ask the host questions if you want additional information before you respond.
  2. Clear and concise: Simple and straightforward answers are key. Use a clear format: organize the response into paragraphs, use bold or italics if needed or supporting images.
  3. Encouraging and supportive: Keep a positive tone. Acknowledge challenges and celebrate wins, offering words of encouragement that make others feel part of a supportive community.
  4. Resources: When possible, include links to official  Airbnb resources, such as articles from the Help Center or Resource Center. Those centers have all the latest information.
  5. Personal experience: If you’ve had a similar issue in the past or have relevant experience, share it. Your own personal experience makes your answer more relatable. For instance, if someone is asking about how to improve their listing, share your best strategies and any lessons you’ve learned. If needed, remind other hosts that your insight is a recommendation based on your own experience.

And of course let’s keep in mind that we're here because we share a passion for hosting and creating amazing experiences. So, let's keep the positive vibes going, be kind to one another, and enjoy this tight-knit community of fellow hosts.

Important note: unless coming from an Online Community Manager or other Airbnb staff members, most answers, comments and opinions in this forum come from our community of hosts and are for information purposes only.

@Quincy respectfully, ever since this feature was added, conversations have become short and boring. Long gone the days when we were a community- got together to discuss things. Ideas were thrown around and we were all better for it. Now top answer is selected, conversation is closed. Why would anyone continue contributing to a discussion if another answer is already good enough? Why is one answer better than the others?
