How to protect feather beds?

How many hosts are using feather bed toppers and how are you protecting them? Will a simple mattress cover do the job?

@Emilia42 While it may not be as comfortable to some, you should protect it under a vinyl mattress enclosure. Many people suffer from allergies and feather anything will bother the sensitivity. Also it will keep the topper clean and bug free.
