I've had a cancellation mid-stay, how are the repayments calculated?

Hello friends,

Can anyone point me to the cancellation policy for guests who leave mid-stay? I had a guest who booked for three months, but only stayed for one and a half. They had warned me that could happen, so when they notified me that they were leaving in the middle of the second month, I suggested that they simply cancel the rest of the reservation. AirBnB issued them an automatic refund, but it was not for the full balance of what they would have paid had they stayed for three months.  And two weeks later, when the third month rolled around, Airbnb made a further partial payment to me. I would actually be happy to refund that final payment to the guests who cancelled, but before I do, I would like to know how these repayments were calculated? Anyone know what the terms are, and where they are posted?

Thanks!

That depends on the cancellation policy you have chosen - seems to be of the flexible kind

Thank you! Very helpful. No idea why I wasn't able to find that link. 😞

Yes, I think our policy must be set to the moderate level, which explains why we got an extra payment.

Much appreciated!

Actually, I overlooked that this is a long term (more than 28 days). For such reservations, long term cancellation policy apply.

Thanks again, Marit Anne! We went ahead and refunded the last little (unexpected) payment, just to be friendly, and our guest seems very happy. 🙂
