Japanese apartments beware

An unfortunate habit in Japan that is misleading, and Airbnb should clamp down on, is listing properties as having X number of bedrooms when, in fact, one of those 'bedrooms' is mattresses on the floor in the lounge and kitchen. It's not a bedroom, and it's misleading to describe a very small one-bedroom apartment as having two bedrooms and being able to sleep six.

Always check the photos carefully.

You’re absolutely right—this is such a frustrating issue! It’s misleading when apartments are listed with more “bedrooms” than they actually have, especially when it’s just mattresses on the floor. Airbnb should definitely take more responsibility to ensure listings are accurate. Checking photos is key, but it would be great if hosts were more upfront about their spaces. Thanks for sharing this—hopefully, more people will stay alert and avoid getting caught off guard!
