Missing pillow

 Dear sirs

What should I do if the guest finds that one pillow is missing after check-out?

@Judy921 do you mean the host? If so they have options:

1) Message the guest and demand they return it/pay for it

2) Message the guest and ask where they may have put it

3) Do nothing and chalk it up to bad luck

I couldn't find a towel once but luckily didn't accuse the guest as it was eventually found having fallen behind a sofa.

@Judy921

The same issue arises with missing kitchenware, which has usually got broken and the guest has neglected to own up to you. Sometimes other small items like my international phone adapter or umbrellas disappear during a visit.

I usually find the best approach is to write to the guest to say you haven't been able to find a particular item during cleaning, and maybe they could let you know where to find it. That usually elicits an honest reply (failing which a bad review for them !). Depending on the response you can then decide whether to charge them for it, or just live with something that may not cost very much and is easily replaced.

Hi Judy.
It’s unfortunate that you need to buy a new pillow that a guest may have taken or wreaked somehow. It’s frustrating, but an easy replacement to buy. It will be easier for you buy a pillow, rather than accusing the guest & getting them upset with you.
Cheers !

Hi Debbie

thank you for your help

@Judy921. I'm dealing with this same issue at the moment. Missing pillow (incl pillow protector and pillowcase, all brand new) was accidently taken by guest as they brought extra bedding. I expect they will return it in the next week to a mutually agreed address. Review was already done and I did not mention it. Had another stay of 7 adults and a towel went missing- didnt even bother to raise it with guests as at least they didnt stain anything and left place very clean.

Here you can write off the full cost of linen every six months or so my accountant tells me 😉

Hi Frances
