My car was vandalized inside a private locked parking area owned by host

My new car was vandalized in a private locked parking area owned by the host.  While in the

ABNB, several people were knocking on the front door and then attempted to break in.  We could hear several voices. The door frame was cracking! I was so frightened.  I called the host and they did not answer. Their mailbox was also full.  I waited till the voices seemed to move away from the door and then I could hear something going on in the backyard. I did not go near the widows.  I didn't want the thugs to know I was in the house.  As soon as I didn't hear anyone around the house, I went outside and saw my car had broken windows and dents. I immediately called the police. I had them generate a police report and then I packed up and left the ABNB in the middle of the night fearing for my life.  My windows were smashed around my car, my car has dents and scratches where are the broken windows are but I didn't care. Finally when the host called, she asked for photos. I provided the pictures and the police report number and name of the police.  I am trying to have my vehicle repaired and need the hosts insurance information.  The host now has the police report and photos and will not respond. They issued a partial refund. Their property is listed as a super host and I just don't understand why they won't respond. This property is definitely NOT safe. The UBER driver told us that he wouldn't leave us until we had the door open at the house.  Im glad to be alive but I need my car repaired. What is my next step? Also, I think this property should be reevaluated for safety. The house itself (inside is beautiful and well maintained - but that doesn't matter if you're murdered on vacation)

@Scott1122  I'm sorry to hear you had such an upsetting experience, and glad you weren't physically harmed. I'm sure your host is also disturbed that someone broke into its property and vandalized its contents. As frustrated as you must feel that he isn't responding to you quickly, this is an extraordinary situation that even the most professional host is unlikely to have anticipated and prepared for. He may well be also waiting for legal advice on how to proceed before corresponding with you any further.

What not to do right now  is start lobbing accusations at the host - especially not here on a public forum. The fact that burglars forcibly entered the parking area does not in itself establish that your room was structurally "unsafe" or that the host was negligent. Fact is, both of you had your property violated - what's the use in escalating a conflict here?

What you should do is contact Airbnb with your documentation (police report, repair estimates, photos). They have their own liability coverage for hosts which may need to be engaged here; in all likelihood your host is waiting for his own claim to be reviewed, as people have reported that it can take weeks. Any other measures that your auto insurance provider asks, of course do those too!

If the host does not respond to you soon, escalate the case. You also need to report this to your car insurance company. The host's insurance probably won't pay for it. Anything with wheels has to have it's own separate insurance policy, so it won't be covered by your host's homeowner's insurance policy. I am so sorry you had this frightening experience. If I were the host, I would give you a 100% refund.

@Scott1122  My guess is that you might have to sue the host to get the $ deductible, but your own auto insurance company can probably advise you on what steps to take.

I'm not sure if your host has any responsibility for complete foreigners crashing Your car.
