Neighbour who constantly lies about events and parties, other things.

Hey,

So I have a neighbour who has made it her mission to shut down my airbnb. She is constantly lying about parties and about guests who are causing disruptions. Everytime she sends a complaint, my airbnb gets suspended until a formal investigation is made, it's usually always back online in a day or two but this is so annoying  There has to be a history of these messages from my neighbour and AirBnB should take a look at the history and not suspend my account. I try to tell them this every time they call and investigate but seems like this message doesn't go beyond the current investigator.

Any thoughts or help from the community would be greatly appreciated.

I am just trying to make a buck in a time of need.

Ryan

@Ryan2851,

Obviously, your neighbor doesn't want an Airbnb in their immediate area.  If they are making false allegations, you may be able to file a civil complaint against them for harassment and have a lawyer draw up a cease and desist order.

Thank you! I am looking into a third party mediator first to see if that will help.

@Ryan2851   I think a third party mediator is an excellent idea.

Neighbor drama is simply not a problem Airbnb has any capacity to solve. If your neighbor no longer feels that her complaints are being taken seriously by Airbnb, she'll just find other ways to make life difficult for you and make your guests uncomfortable.  If you can show a good-faith effort to hear out her issues, de-escalate the conflict, and work toward a resolution, you might actually get somewhere.  I'm afraid going straight to a lawyer would only exacerbate the feud.

Yes, a mediator is a great idea, one that is an expert on how to deal with neighboring, mean-spirited fruitcakes would be best.

Sorry to hear about this @Ryan2851 - feel free to come back and update us on things after you've tried the third party mediation you mentioned.

Hi there @Lisa1286

I'm so sorry to hear you're experiencing the same issues. Have you spoken to Airbnb Support? What have they said?

They unlisted us. We are 5 star host and they believe a neighbor from the neighborhood that does not even pay the HOA fee. She bothers everyone that lives near her. What happened with your case?

@Ryan2851,

Sometimes cities will allow you to file a complaint against a neighbor or have them mediate an issue between a neighbor. As long as you are abiding by the cities codes and rules, there should be no issue with her falsified complaints. You could even survey some other neighbors to have their views to contrast to the problematic neighbor.

We had a neighbor complain about our construction crews when we were remodeling our home. They worked in the allowed hours, were friendly to her, but she wanted to know what they were doing and when. When they didn’t oblige she started complaining about them parking in front of her house (it is street parking and public for anyone), complaining they were walking on her grass (the first 4 feet of our lawn belongs to the city in case they decide to make a sidewalk mandatory later). An official listened to our side of the story and then dismissed her complaint. We didn’t need to do meditation but it sometimes is offered by some cities for free/reduced fee.
