Noise complaint

Noise complaint

I’m in a 3 story condo- the new owner above me had converted his condo into an Air b and b.  All sorts of traffic in and out up til 4-5 am.  This is from Thursday- Tuesday.. This is unbearable and I have zero sleep and stressed with anxiety from this ( being a heart patient doesn’t make it easier) I’ve emailed the owner and also called police for assistance- nothing is helpful.   Any suggestions?

Not sure why you wouldn't handle this like any other noisy neighbor.  Keep reporting to the Police and reach out to your HOA.

Airbnb will really do nothing without other complaints. It is a you say, they say situation and Airbnb rarely deals in real-time.

Just because it is an Airbnb doesn't make it their liability. Even if they do remove the listing, how about when it becomes a VRBO or any other rental?

Without any reasoning why the police won't assist, there is little others can do, unfortunately. I wouldn't honestly think the HOA is the best course.

Sorry I don't agree @Chad548  the Airbnb business owner and Airbnb should take these complaints seriously.

@Carol10290  what did the owner say they would do when you let them know their guests were being noisy ? Do they have quiet time published on their listing

does your HOA and local government not have regulations around  late night noise and disturbance ?

@Helen3Sorry I disagree as they said they already took that route. I didn't say the host shouldn't take the issue seriously, but reaching out to Airbnb not going to resolve the issue.

What if the listing is removed by Airbnb and the host goes to another hosting site? The issue starts all over again. The HOA the the local enforcement agency is the best course of action for a long term solution.

I know this is late but in my area the police and county only do so much due it not being a permanent resident. Sheriff will tell them to quiet down if I call every time and wait for them to show (sometimes 2 hours).  I say this because I cannot address a STR guest the same way as any other neighbor.  You are correct in the fact that air bnb will not do anything.  They will pull the listing which would be awesome but haven't done this for my neighbor yet after 2 hosts over 2 years.  The sheriff and attorney both suggested that I get the attention of the host to try to have him be more neighborly.  I asked them both how to do that and the response, and I quote...'Be a bigger d***'.

That is not in my nature but after many sleepless nights and people trespassing, I am coming around.

Do you live in an area governed by an HOA? Does the city or county have a noise ordinance?

Have you tried posting on Airbnb's social media accounts? (X/Twitter, Instagram)

Have you tried contacting the local media about this?

I do not live in an HOA.  And yes, I know that by choosing not to live in a HOA by choice this is a downside.

The county has a noise ordnance however every guest is a first offense.  The sheriff will come out to tell them to be quiet but that is it.  No further action, their response is contact Air BNB or lawyer up.  The house just sold so I now have to build another case against this new host.

I have tagged them in posts, but I am now looking into more social posting.  This is the second time the suggestion of Air BNB social media has been suggested.

I have tried local media and even the college journalism department.

I tried to send you a Direct Message but it appears you don't have the enabled on your account?

I tried to go to messages, and it states I do not have those permissions?  I will try to get the messages working later.  Thank you.

Good advice from @Joelle43 . If it is a "party" that is happening until 4-5am, be sure to use that word "party" when contacting Airbnb.
