I am looking for a unique place to stay in July. I don’t have a specific date and I can go to five surrounding states. Now that this feature is gone I have no use for Air B&B. I had recently used this feature and found the most amazing place to stay, it was a mud hut on Native American land. I was hope to have another unique experience in July, but since this feature is gone, it seems pretty much impossible.
Yes, Airbnb removed Categories for guest searches in April 2025.
You can try searching on the internet for the category you are looking for...many Hosts have direct booking sites or try Instagram accounts where they post links to their Airbnb listings.
Why did they remove the category? We would often just search for a cool or quirky airbnb for a spontaneous weekend trip , but now that the feature is gone it's not as easy to find a cool place!
Agreed - that was the best part about airbnb
Not sure what AirBnB's rationale was with removing these categories and prioritizing adding in services - seems like a major gross misstep on their part because I too often used OMG and other categories to find cool and unique stays. I would go out of my way for them, but now it's as though we just have to somehow magically know that these cool places exist.
What the heck? I just noticed this. This was a terrible move. I would often use the fantastic views button. Airbnb, please add this back.
I feel exactly the same. I just spent 4 hours all day trying to find a place to stay and all I feel is frustrated and sad for the people that have really great places that can't be found.
Utterly ridiculous. How did they even think that this was a good idea? Now airbnb is nothing but another hotel/ motel site in my opinion. I only have access to the app and I have tried numerous different ways to access options for searching. If they're there, I can't access them.
Bring back the unique aspects I say!!❤️

What's crazy is Ryan Trehan, giant YouTuber, just did a whole series based around Airbnbs in each state and he said he used the OMG category.
Yes, but he was saying in one of his videos that he booked these OMg airbnbs a year ago so maybe that's why he could have done it, as they only took this category out in April. But yes, so sad it's gone 😞
Im watching that video right now and am super disappointed I can’t find any of these unique finds.
Miss the Categories so much! We had a fantastic stay in a converted missile silo we found using OMG and it was EPIC! Please bring categories back. We were looking forward to a tree house stay this year.
That does sound epic, @Paul12598! Could you tell from the inside that it was a converted missile or did they convert it so completely that it was a perfect illusion?
If you think certain filters would be valuable to add, such a type of property you find useful to target in your travels, you can let the team know directly using our feedback form: https://www.airbnb.com/help/feedback 🙂

Thank you, @Emilie , for the link. I just voiced MHO. Cool places shouldn't just for people "in the know" or with "the right connections". That's elitist. Airbnb is one of the rare gifts for the middle classes. Lets keep it that way.
