Opening the windows and heating the street

So like everyone in the UK we faced a 100+% electricity hike this week along with our heating oil jumping up 400% more than in 2020.

Super lovely guests arrived yesterday, 6 Chinese students from London doing a Scottish Road Trip during the Easter Holidays.

I gave them a tour, had a pleasant chat and left them asking them to ensure that they didn’t open windows when the heating was on but to turn the radiators down if they got too warm.

They’ve been out all day sightseeing, it’s 4 degrees C outside and they’ve left all the windows wide open.

I’m going to just have to let this one go but how to address this in the future?  A neatly framed notice at the front door asking them not to go out leaving the windows open?

Suggestions.

@Amanda660    It’s actually a 50% increase on the electricity.. but combined with the Oil increases will certainly be ‘painful’ to say the least for most hosts.  We have started asking guests, in our check in message, to be ‘mindful’ of their energy use as we have not raised our rates in three years now.  You could also perhaps leave a polite notice to this effect in your property.  I don’t think the majority of guests are bad, and do this deliberately… it is more thoughtlessness than anything else…
