In some cases "where they are coming from"  is not there when a prospective guest tries to make a booking with no reviews. We are extremely wary of locals booking our place. We would also like to know more about the guest before we give our place. To confirm all these we sometimes ask for their id. They are not able to send it as pictures cannot be sent

A potential guest can't send pictures @Hari-Kumar1 . Only when a booking is confirmed pictures can be exchanged between guest and host.
