Please share your tips for making your place "feel" clean
Another four stars from a guest today who did not feel my place was clean enough. Not only my housekeeper cleaned from top to bottom, I came in personally to make sure and put some final touches. I did not think the floors were clean enough and paid her overtime to rewash them all including every corner. At this point I think is more of an overall feeling by guests rather than anything specific. Do you have any tips for making a place feel fresh?

@Inna22 I know not everyone agrees but we use a lavender or lemon verbena spray, it, to me, smells fresh without being cloying. Agree on opening the the windows, esp in summer to bring in fresh air. $5worth of flowers can help w guest subliminal impressions,

@Colleen253 I mean how are they planning on cleaning my airbnb in Chicago? I can see if someone local jumped in to offer services. Clearly just spam

@Zahr61 Spamming this discussion forum with advertising will not result in getting business. All it does is irritate users.

Great suggestions from everyone. Agree with all of them.
If things are clean, but worn, they can appear dirty. Baseboards, trim, scuff marks on the walls. Fresh cost of paint goes a long way.

Colleen253, yes. Totally true. I have a little bit older home and I have to touch up the trim, baseboards, even painting the wooden windows, regularly. Kind of a constant battle against shabby. I think my hardwood floors, which are clean, don't look as clean as they could because they could use refinishing.
So, perhaps there is "clean", as in no crumbs, dirt, etc...
"Clean" as in sanitized, which is especially important right now.
And "Clean" as in not-shabby.

Someone suggested using an ozone generator between bookings to purify the air.
I ordered one from Amazon for about $80 but haven’t received it yet.
We also open up all the screened windows while cleaning and leave them open during cool weather.

@Brian2036 yes, I use it all the time but you can not be in the space when it is running so it can only be done when you have at least a day between guests

@Brian2036 Ozone generators can be hard on a space and the things in it. You need to remove all living beings, plants included, and allow lots of time during and after use. I have one and it did a great job of removing the smoky smell from the fireplace that guests could never figure out how to use properly. But I wouldn't use it on the regular.

@Pat271 I only use it when someone smoked or cooked something strong smelling in the kitchen. And yes, it works great. I do not think it would make a space smell fresh

You've received great suggestions. One thing that often gets missed, and I make sure to clean in my spaces, are the ceiling fan blades and all vent grills/registers (including the range hood). To me, the whole rental seems grungy when these things show even a little dirt, grit, or dust.
Don't just believe what I say, check the Airbnb Help Center
