Possible Fraud Supported by AirBnb

Possible Fraud Supported by AirBnb

I was hosted by Plushy in Lodi, CA between July 29, 2025 to August 9, 2025. For some reason the host's inspection had found damage to their garbage disposal and is demanding payment from me. I had not touched the garbage disposal in any fashion and had used amenities normally. AirBnb for some reason demanded proof that I did not touch the unit. Now I am unable to cancel the $602.55 payment requested even after reaching out and emailing support. What else can I do??

@Jorge-Salvador0 cancel your credit/debit card used to payAirbnb. Then let them come after you for the claim whereupon you can defend yourself in court.

Hi @Jorge-Salvador0

The burden of proof should not fall on you to prove that you didn’t damage something. Normally, Airbnb’s Host Damage Protection / Resolution Center requires us host to provide proof (photos, receipts, estimates, timestamps, etc.) that the guest actually caused the damage.

If you haven’t already clicked “accept,” don’t.

Note that garbage disposals can fail from age, wear, or prior misuse  and not necessarily during your stay.

Call Airbnb support again and request a supervisor or case manager.

I agree with @Patricia2526

Do NOT accept the charge

The Host is responsible for proving to Airbnb that you damaged the garbage disposal (unlikely)

It is possible a previous guest caused the damage or as @Patricia2526 the disposal just needs replacing.

I'm assuming the Host has simply tried resetting the disposal (red button on it) or many have a wrench tool that helps clear jammed blades.
