Dear fellow hosts,
I have been renting out my property for years, but recently started renting on Airbnb.
For the night register that I am required to keep by the local government in connection with tourist tax, I need to collect information from guests, such as their name, address and date of birth.
Does anyone have experience with how to request this information in the correct manner? Is it acceptable to do so via messages on Airbnb?
Can you also ask for an email address?
Thank you in advance for your tips
Kind regards
Christel

Hello @Christel944
If it is a requirement for your country then it is possible to request this information from guest but you do need to specify this on your listing. You could put it in the Additional information and explain what is required if they want to book with you. I would send this requirement again as soon as you receive a booking so that the guest can cancel if they are allergic to giving this information for whatever reason!
Because guests already upload this information to be able to register, some guests don't understand that as hosts we do not have access to these personal details so an explanation is required I think to reassure the guests why as a host you need this information. Here is an Airbnb link:

And yes always use the Airbnb message system to communicate on this subject and say something like: "Dear XX, I just wanted to be sure that you saw on the listing that I am required by the local authorities to ask you for your name, etc so that the correct tourist tax is calculated for your stay"
Do you need to collect this information BEFORE their stay or can you do it upon their arrival? Some guests may worry that this information gets into the wrong hands or want a secure method of sending the information?
Christel, I think it would be wise to ask hosts on the Dutch community center how they go about obtaining this information from guests - email? You can do this by clicking on the globe icon that you see on this page and select your country from the list.
Have you checked other listings to see how and if this information is relayed to guests?
All the best
Joëlle
Hi @Christel944 😊,
thank you for asking this question here!
To give you a better help, would you like to specify where are you hosting from?
Warm regards 🌻,

Dear Joelle,
Thank you very much for your detailed and helpful reply.
I will indeed ask the Dutch community how they request this necessary information from their guests.
But your tips have already been a huge help. Thank you very much!
Best Regards,
Christel
