Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my recent experience in case it helps other hosts — especially those in New York City and those offering 30+ night stays only.
The Problem
On June 3rd, my listing was mysteriously set to “Unlisted” by Airbnb with a message saying NYC had unlisted it. This happened a few minutes just after having selected/opted in to the "New Airbnb Features", which I was curious about. After I pressed the button, I saw some frontend design changes in my hosting platform view and additional features that I began browsing. Soon after, my listing was automatically reset to "Unlisted". I only host long-term (30+ night) stays, so I was surprised. I had no registration violations and was compliant with local laws (no STR activity) yet the message I kept receiving when trying to click "List my Space" was that I needed a NYU registration number but this only applied to listings that do short-term stays under 30 days. I was very surprised and confused.
Despite multiple calls to Airbnb Support and even DMing @AirbnbHelp, all I got were vague responses about NYC regulations and short-term rental registration, which didn’t apply to me. I waited over a week with no real resolution.
The Fix (That Actually Worked)
I came across advice from a popular Airbnb Youtuber (Sean Rakidzich) who pointed out that Airbnb’s internal algorithm may now require all profile fields — even “optional” ones — to be completed.
Out of ideas, I went to my “About the Host” section and noticed I had left 4 optional fields blank. I filled them all out (For guests, I always:..., and similar fields) and then clicked “List My Space” — and it worked! My listing was instantly back up.
Key Takeaways
Optional may no longer mean optional — complete everything in your profile and listing sections.
Airbnb’s system appears to use a stricter internal algorithm to auto-unlist listings if profiles aren’t fully filled out.
Support may not always be aware of these changes — so self-troubleshooting can help.
You may not receive an email saying it’s resolved — just test the “List My Space” button after completing your info.
Hope this helps others avoid the same weeklong limbo I went through.
Best,
Oscar
OH MY!
Thank you soooo much for posting this! I have seen other Hosts posting about suddenly having problems. What in the world does the Host profile have to do with listing registrations for 30+ days only!!
C'mon Airbnb...
Hi Oscar, I tried your suggestion but still no luck. Am I missing something?
It depends on the circumstances surrounding the incident with your account.
In my case, I was "Listed" and then selected "Early Access Features" within the Hosting environment in the open menu after clicking the right hamburger dropdown. This action caused my Hosting environment to change slightly, and soon after, my space became "Unlisted" and I received an email from Airbnb saying I needed a "registration" to host Short-Term but I do not do that; I only do Long-Term, hence the "new" system I autoflagged my account.
If you experienced the same thing, then I would advise you to fill out not only all of the fields in the "About the Host" section but also anywhere else there might be a missing field, like in your Photos or description or anywhere else; fill out every single thing and see if that works, and then go back and "manually" click "List My Space". I was also calling Airbnb quite often, got my case elevated, got my case to email exchange level and kept posting on Twitter to Airbnb Help to help nudge my case forward. If filling out all fields is not working for your then perhaps try balancing the efforts with continual pressure to Airbnb, which is what I was also doing. My case may have been getting moved forward in the queue because of my pressure and when I finally filled out everything, the system might have given my listing the thumbs up.
Good Luck
Oscar
@Oscar196 I was able to resolve it by going to Calendar and clicking all dates from current to end of December and changing the custom settings to 30 day min. The settings on the calendar were somehow different from the main page, thus it asking me to register the apt since it thought I was doing short term rentals.
